The three words are stacked loosely, and the drawing is a hand-lettered script with the fill removed: every stroke is a pair of thin contours, which makes the words read as drawn lines rather than as lettering filled with ink. Loops are oversized and the baselines wander, so the lockup looks sketched in place rather than typeset, and the mix of capitals and lowercase keeps it informal. Because the contours are fine, the face needs a large size and a mid-tone ground, and the specimen provides both with a photographed street scene at dusk. The line-art moon and bouquet at the sides are drawn in the same weight, which is what ties the type to the illustration and makes the whole plate read as one hand.
