Varsity and script combination layered into one lockup
Athlete College is a combination family in which heavy varsity capitals sit behind a flowing script line that crosses the whole word, so a design reads as a team name with a written banner over it.

Visual anatomy & craft review
The A cuts a wide apex with a flat bar, the t sets a heavy crossbar, the l rises on a thick stem, the e fills a square eye and the C cuts a heavy crescent, all at a varsity weight with square serifs; the script cut writes an even connected line that crosses the caps at mid-height. The combination is the character: the script sits over the caps rather than under them, which is how the sample builds one lockup from two cuts. The caps hold at 40 pt and the script at 34 pt, and both print in one flat colour each. The crumpled paper ground, the small credits at the sides and the banner beneath are presentation; the red caps and navy script are the family.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Athlete College’s stroke geometry.
The combined lockup gives a sports shirt two voices in one pass, and the varsity slabs stay solid at 80 mm across a chest.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 320 mm chest print: set the caps at 80 mm, set the script at 60 pt so it crosses the caps at mid-height, and leave 40 mm of clear shirt beneath for the year.
Pre-production check
A script crossing a cap at the wrong height covers the serif; check the film and keep the crossing at mid-height rather than at the foot.
The varsity weight reads across a field, and the script adds a written line without a second design at 120 mm and 60 pt.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a two-metre homecoming banner: set the caps at 120 mm, set the script at 90 pt across them, and keep a 45 mm border so both layers stay inside the hem.
Pre-production check
Two layers at banner size multiply registration error; check a proof and let the script sit in the lighter colour.
The combination translates into embroidery without redrawing, and the varsity slabs hold a club name at 55 mm on a merrowed patch.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Digitise a 75 mm alumni patch: set the caps at 55 mm, keep the script stroke at 2 mm minimum, and run the keyline as a satin border around the whole lockup.
Pre-production check
A 1.5 mm script stroke cannot hold a satin run; check the digitised preview and widen the stroke before sewing.
