Visual anatomy & craft review
Jesus is a swash-curled storybook uppercase display serif: heavy bracketed caps with long curls running off the crossbars, a small ball terminal on the diagonal and a dense even texture that reads as an illuminated page. The curls extend the word sideways and the ball terminals are the finest element. It needs roughly 32 mm for the curl and the ball to read, and it is best in one deep ink on cream, or a fine gold on a dark ground where the curls print as bright lines.

A curled storybook serif reads as an illuminated greeting rather than a printed card, which is what a church or a family wants in December. The curls hold at 26 mm, and one deep ink prints the card, the tags and the banner in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Card 105 x 148 mm, greeting 26 mm with 10 mm curl clearance, message 8/11 pt, 12 mm margins. Tag 50 x 90 mm, word 12 mm with a 5 mm hole and 8 mm clear. Banner 1200 x 400 mm, word 140 mm, 25 mm safe edge.
Pre-production check
A 50 x 90 mm tag at 12 mm merges the curl into the following letter and the greeting reads as a knot. Raise the tag word to 16 mm, and print one tag on the actual card stock before the batch.
A curled serif gives a spring service the weight of a printed order rather than a photocopied sheet. The curls hold at 30 mm on a card, and one ink prints the card and the welcome sign in one pass.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Card A6, greeting 30 mm with 10 mm curl clearance, note 8/11 pt, 12 mm margins. Welcome sign 600 x 400 mm, word 90 mm, 25 mm margins. Banner 1200 x 400 mm, word 140 mm, 25 mm safe edge.
Pre-production check
On a 600 x 400 mm sign the curl runs past the printed area and gets trimmed. Keep the word inside a 25 mm margin, and inspect one sign in daylight before hanging.
A curled storybook serif reads as a hand-set imprint rather than a modern logo, which is what a bookbinder wants on a plate. The bracket holds at 22 mm, and one ink prints the plate and the stamp in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Bookplate 90 x 60 mm, word 18 mm with 6 mm curl clearance, 6 mm margins. Stamp 50 x 20 mm, word 8 mm, 2 mm margin. Card 85 x 55 mm, word 14 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 50 x 20 mm rubber stamp at 8 mm fills the bracket and the mark reads as a blot. Keep stamps at 12 mm and above, and test one impression before the order.
