Visual anatomy & craft review
Lunar Countdown is a celestial display serif with crescent moons and stars worked into the caps: bracketed heavy stems, a crescent cut into the bowl of the round letters and a small star cluster replacing the dot and some terminals. The ornaments are integral to the letter, so they vanish rather than thin out at small sizes. It needs roughly 32 mm for the crescent and the star to read, and it is best in one midnight ink on cream, or a fine gold on a deep navy where the crescents print in reverse.

A celestial display serif gives a winter countdown a drawn midnight title without a separate illustration. The crescents hold at 26 pt on a card, and one ink on cream prints the invitation and the menu in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invitation 130 x 180 mm, title 26 pt with 10 mm ornament clearance, details 9/13 pt, 15 mm margins. Menu 120 x 210 mm, header 20 pt, courses 9/12 pt. Table card 90 x 50 mm, name 12 pt, 4 mm margins.
Pre-production check
At 12 pt on a table card the crescent fills its bowl and the name reads as a smudge. Raise table cards to 18 pt, and proof one card before the set.
A celestial display announces a milestone with the look of a night sky rather than a printed number. The crescents hold at 44 mm on a topper, and one ink prints the invite and the banner as one set.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invite A6, word 40 mm with 8 mm ornament clearance, details 8/11 pt, 12 mm margins. Topper 130 x 110 mm, word 44 mm with a 6 mm stick slot and 12 mm clear. Banner 1500 x 400 mm, word 150 mm, 30 mm safe edge.
Pre-production check
A 130 mm topper cut through a crescent leaves a thin sliver that falls out in the laser. Cut toppers with a 2 mm bridge or print on 3 mm board, and test one before the party.
A celestial serif turns an astronomy feature into a printed night sky at the top of the page. The stars hold at 52 pt against a serif body, and the ornaments keep the header from needing an image.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Opener 210 x 297 mm, title 52 pt with 10 mm ornament clearance, standfirst 11/15 pt, body 9/13 pt in two columns of 82 mm, 18 mm margins and a 12 mm head. Pull quote 36 pt with 8 mm above and 8 mm below. Folio mark 12 mm, 8 mm from the trim.
Pre-production check
At 12 mm on the folio mark the star cluster closes into a dot and the mark reads as a grease spot. Use a plain glyph on the folio, and proof one spread at 1:1.
