Visual anatomy & craft review
Homies is an ultra-narrow six-to-one skyscraper condensed sans: extremely tight stems, a very small counter, squared shoulders and a flat baseline that turns a column of type into a vertical rule. The proportions fit a long name in a narrow band, and the counter is the first thing to close at any reduction. It needs roughly 28 mm for the counter and the shoulder to read, and it is best in one dark ink on white and cream, or white on a dark ground where the narrow stems read as light strips.

A six-to-one condensed sans reads as a set of credits rather than a headline, which is what a fashion issue wants down the side of a page. The narrow stems fit a full credit list in a 30 mm column, and the cover band holds the issue name at 60 pt in a strip.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Credit column 30 mm wide, entries 7/9 pt with 2 mm between blocks, 18 mm margins and a 10 mm head. Cover band 210 x 40 mm, word 30 pt, 10 mm margins to the trim. Spine 12 mm wide, title 8 pt centred with 20 mm clear of the head band.
Pre-production check
At 7 pt in the credit column the counter closes and the entries read as grey vertical rules. Keep the column at 8.5 pt and above, and proof one page at 1:1 before the run.
A skyscraper condensed sans reads as a brass door strip rather than a designed logo, which is what a small gallery wants beside its entrance. The narrow stems fit a long name on a 40 mm strip at 90 mm high, and one ink prints the card and the strip from one file.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Door strip 40 x 600 mm, word 90 mm with 10 mm edge clearance. Card 85 x 55 mm, name 12 pt, details 7/9 pt, 5 mm margins. Poster 210 x 297 mm, word 60 pt, 18 mm margins.
Pre-production check
On an 85 x 55 mm card the details at 7 pt lose the counter and print as a solid grey line under the name. Raise details to 8.5 pt or drop them from the front, and check one card before the order.
A narrow condensed sans gives a New Year dinner the formality of a printed programme, which is what a long table wants. The tall caps hold a two-line greeting in a slim invitation at 40 pt, and one ink prints the invitation and the menu strips in a single order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invitation 100 x 210 mm, names 40 pt with 8 mm clearance, details 9/13 pt, 12 mm margins. Menu strip 60 x 210 mm, header 14 pt, courses 9/11 pt. Place card 90 x 50 mm, name 12 pt, 4 mm margins.
Pre-production check
At 12 pt on a place card the counter closes entirely and the name reads as a black strip at the table. Set place cards at 16 pt or in a wider companion, and proof one card before the set.
