of Headley Duo.

Headley Duo is a heritage pair: a weathered monoline script with a soft swell on the downstroke and a rough-edged vintage sans with squared terminals and slightly uneven stems. The script carries the personality and the sans carries the information, so the pair works as one sign with two voices. The rough contour is drawn in the outline, not applied as a filter, so it holds through a one-colour print. The script needs roughly 26 mm and the sans 14 mm for the weathering to read.

Heritage shopfront, paper bag and hanging sign

A weathered script paired with a rough sans is the lettering an old high-street shop already wears, so a new identity in it reads as inherited rather than invented. The script holds the shop name at 30 mm on a bag, and the sans carries the address and hours in one ink without a second plate.

Pre-production check

On a paper bag the rough stem edge of the 9 mm sans fills in under flexo and the address reads as a solid bar. Print the bag digitally or set the address at 12 mm, and check one bag on the production stock.

A weathered script reads as written rather than typeset, which is what a note to a customer should feel like after a purchase. The rough sans gives the shop name a small, honest signature at the foot of the card, and one ink prints the card, the tag and the seal from a single artwork.

Card A6, script 22 mm, sans 9/12 pt, 12 mm margins. Twine tag 40 x 70 mm, script 10 mm with a 4 mm hole and 5 mm clear. Seal 40 mm round, initial only at 12 mm, 3 mm die margin.

Pre-production check

A 40 x 70 mm tag forces the script to 10 mm where the weathering reads as dirt rather than grain. Raise the tag word to 14 mm and keep the seal to an initial, then print one tag before the batch.

Harvest-market poster, crate stencil and sack label

A weathered pair is the natural voice for a harvest market, because the rough sans looks stencilled on a crate and the script looks chalked on a board. The script gives the headline warmth at 90 mm, and the sans keeps the stall numbers legible from a distance in the same one-colour screen.
