Visual anatomy & craft review
Atef is a heavy industrial stencil sans with bold military bridge cuts down vertical stems and a spray-paint texture that reads as applied directly to concrete. The blocks are wide and square, the bridges are crisp rather than decorative, and the edges carry a light overspray that keeps the letters from looking like vector rectangles. It needs roughly 25 mm for the bridges to read as cuts, and it is at its best in matte black on a mid-grey ground or reversed out of a dark wall.

Military bridge cuts read as stencilled crate marking, which is the material language of a workshop or a small brewery. Overspray edges survive a rough print surface such as concrete or board.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Sign 900 x 400 mm, word 180 mm, 60 mm margins and 20 mm clear of the frame. Crate 400 x 200 mm, word 90 mm, 25 mm margins. Label 90 x 110 mm, word 18 mm, abv 4.5 pt on a 6 mm baseline, 5 mm top arc.
Pre-production check
Bridges under 2 mm close at label size and the word reads as a plain block. Keep bridge gaps proportional to the delivered size, and check one printed label before the run.
Stencil blocks read as a painted wall statement, which suits a protest or industrial release. Overspray gives texture without a distressed typeface.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Sleeve 312 x 312 mm plus 3 mm bleed, word 210 mm, credits 7 pt on an 8 mm baseline. Poster A1, word 320 mm, details 26/32 pt, 40 mm margins. Zine A5, masthead 54 pt across a 42 mm column grid.
Pre-production check
Photocopied posters on recycled stock fill the overspray and the word looks smudged. Print one test copy on the actual machine, and reduce the texture density rather than the size.
Industrial stencil reads as a facility marking, which is the register a warehouse haunt wants over a cartoon. Heavy blocks stay legible in low light.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Sign 1200 x 400 mm, word 240 mm, 80 mm margins and 30 mm from the frame. Board 600 x 300 mm, word 120 mm, 40 mm margins. Crate label 150 x 100 mm, word 26 mm, 6 mm border and 4 mm corner radius.
Pre-production check
Venues light signs unevenly and a black word on grey concrete reads flat under amber light. Check one 1:1 print in the actual space, and lighten the ground if the letters lose contrast.
