Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
4th July is a tall folk-art display in which vertical stems are filled with stars and crossbars are built as striped ladder rungs, so the letters read as flags assembled into type. The construction is tall and narrow, which stacks a long word in a column, and the detail is coarse enough to cut in vinyl and print at 15 mm. It needs roughly 20 mm for the stars and stripes to read separately, and it is at its best in two colours — a deep blue and a warm red — on white.

Star-filled stems read as a flag at a glance, which is what a porch sign wants from the road. Tall narrow letters fit a long word in a single column on a narrow banner.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Banner 900 x 400 mm, word 160 mm, 50 mm margins, 60 mm pitch. Porch sign 600 x 400 mm, word 140 mm. Cup wrap 200 x 90 mm, word 20 mm, 10 mm from the rim.
Pre-production check
Stars cut in vinyl under 3 mm tear during weeding, and a tall stem gives little room. Keep the smallest star at 4 mm, and check one weeded letter before cutting the banner set.
Folk-art flag letters read as a celebration in the American idiom, which suits a summer party with a backyard theme. The tall forms give a short name vertical impact on an A6.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invite A6, name 18 mm, details 4.5 mm, 10 mm margins. Topper 130 x 110 mm, name 45 mm, 8 mm stick slot. Sticker 50 mm round, word 8 mm, 2 mm die margin.
Pre-production check
A two-colour topper is printed single-sided on card and pushed into icing, so the second colour can transfer. Keep the artwork above the 8 mm slot line, and check one assembled topper before the party.
Folk-art flag type suits a commemorative card, and the coarse detail survives printing at 14 pt on a folded card. Two colours keep a small run affordable.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Card 105 x 148 mm, greeting 16 mm, message 7/10 pt, 12 mm margins. Programme A5, headings 16 mm, order 8.5/12 pt. Print 210 x 297 mm, word 50 mm, 30 mm margins.
Pre-production check
Memorial printing is often done in small runs on a digital press with tight registration, and two colours can slip by 0.2 mm. Design the star and stripe layers so a slight slip still looks deliberate, and check one proof.
