Crisp hairline serifs shine on stationery, foil stamping, and packaging; add slight offset for small decals.
Visual anatomy & craft review
Velmor is a slender open-inline serif drawn for luxury editorial and perfumery: thin outer strokes flank a fine open channel, the serifs are hairlines and the contrast is extreme, so the letter reads as a drawn line rather than a mass. The open channel is the whole design, and it closes when the face is small or printed on absorbent stock. It needs roughly 36 mm for the channel to stay open, and it is best in one dense ink on smooth matte stock, or a fine foil above 48 pt where the channel edge can carry.

An open-inline serif reads as a drawn masthead rather than a printed one, which is what a luxury title wants at the top of the cover. The channel gives the masthead a luminous quality at 96 pt, and one ink on smooth stock keeps the hairlines from breaking.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Cover 210 x 297 mm, masthead 96 pt with 12 mm channel clearance, cover lines 11/15 pt, 18 mm margins. Feature opener 60 pt, standfirst 11/15 pt. Contents head 30 pt.
Pre-production check
At 60 pt on the opener the 0.25 mm channel fills on a coated sheet and the title reads as a solid thin serif. Keep the channel for 72 pt and above, and proof one cover with the printer before the run.
A slender open-inline serif reads as an engraved flacon rather than a modern label, which is what a small perfumery wants on its carton. The channel gives the house name a fine metallic look at 30 mm, and one ink on uncoated board keeps the outer strokes crisp.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Carton 60 x 160 x 30 mm, word 28 mm with 8 mm channel clearance, 8 mm margins. Bottle label 70 x 50 mm, word 16 mm, 4 mm margins. Card 85 x 55 mm, word 16 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 70 x 50 mm bottle label at 16 mm closes the channel entirely and the name prints as a thin solid serif with no luxury edge. Keep the label at 24 mm or use the filled cut, and check one label on the bottle before the run.
An open-inline serif gives a New Year dinner the formality of an engraved card without a script. The channel holds at 26 pt on a menu header, and one ink on smooth cream stock prints the invitation, the menu and the place cards as one suite.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invitation 130 x 180 mm, names 26 pt with 8 mm channel clearance, details 9/13 pt, 15 mm margins. Menu 120 x 210 mm, header 20 pt, courses 9/12 pt. Place card 90 x 50 mm, name 12 pt, 4 mm margins.
Pre-production check
At 12 pt on a place card the channel closes and the name reads as a plain hairline serif that greys out at the table. Keep place cards at 18 pt or use the filled cut, and proof one card before the set.
