Visual anatomy & craft review
Nocht Star is a DIY punk zine ransom face built from cut magazine clippings: each letter is a different torn paper tile with a visible cut edge, mismatched type styles inside the tiles and a hard photocopy contrast. The mismatched tiles are the design, so the face already looks assembled and any added texture pushes it into mud. It needs roughly 26 mm for the cut edge to read, and it is best as a one-colour photocopy or a flat black print on uncoated stock.

A ransom-clipping face reads as a pasted zine cover rather than a designed logo, which is what a small music zine wants. The cut edges hold at 40 mm on a sticker, and one black print covers the sticker and the poster in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Sticker 90 x 60 mm, word 40 mm with 8 mm cut clearance, 5 mm die margin. Poster A3, word 120 mm, 20 mm margins. Card 85 x 55 mm, word 20 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 90 x 60 mm sticker at 40 mm cuts through the torn edges and the word reads as a solid black tile. Keep the word at 50 mm or print on paper only, and check one sticker before the run.
A ransom face announces an anti-polish party through the lettering alone. The tiles hold at 44 mm on an invite, and one black print covers the invite and the wraps as one set.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invite A6, word 44 mm with 10 mm cut clearance, details 8/11 pt, 14 mm margins. Topper 130 x 110 mm, word 48 mm with a 6 mm stick slot and 12 mm clear. Cup wrap 200 x 90 mm, word 20 mm, 12 mm from the rim.
Pre-production check
A 130 mm topper cut as separate tiles leaves gaps that read as missing letters. Weld the tiles to a backing shape, and test one before the party.
A ransom face turns a music zine into a pasted cover rather than a styled one. The tiles hold at 44 pt on an uncoated page, and one black print keeps the photocopy contrast honest.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Header 44 pt with 10 mm cut clearance, body 9/13 pt over two columns of 82 mm, 18 mm margins and a 12 mm head. Cover flash 90 x 60 mm, word 32 pt, 6 mm margins. Pull quote 30 pt.
Pre-production check
At 30 pt on the pull quote the tiles silt into a grey mass on a photocopy. Keep the face at 40 pt and above, and proof one copy at 1:1.
