Letterform structure
of Moonlight.
The word is set edge to edge and the drawing is a grotesque compressed almost to a line: the stems are narrow, the counters are slits, and the shoulders of the O and the G are squared rather than round, which keeps the letters from looking squeezed. The ligature set is the second half of the design, letting pairs merge so a long word can run the whole width without looking evenly spaced. Because the width is extreme, the face works at display sizes and in tight columns, and the specimen sets everything large over a dark lunar photograph. Two tracked captions beneath and above sit in a light grotesque at small size, and they are the only elements besides the word, so the plate is a demonstration of compression.
