Visual anatomy & craft review
Jersey Western is an octagonal varsity block crossed with a Western spur slab: heavy squared letters with chamfered corners, thick unbracketed slabs that end in a small spur and a small buckle cut into the diagonal strokes. The chamfer closes first when the face shrinks, and the spur widens the word. It needs roughly 30 mm for the chamfer and the spur to read, and it is best in two flat inks on jersey and felt, or one ink on banner mesh at gate distance.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Jersey Western’s stroke geometry.
An octagonal Western slab reads as a printed frontier bill rather than a modern flyer, which is what an autumn rodeo wants on a fence. The chamfers hold at 130 mm on a poster, and two flat inks print the poster and the prize labels in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Poster A2, word 130 mm with 14 mm chamfer clearance, details 40 mm, 20 mm margins. Arena banner 3000 x 800 mm, word 260 mm, 60 mm safe edge. Prize label 90 x 60 mm, word 16 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 90 x 60 mm prize label at 16 mm fills the chamfer and the word reads as a stain. Raise the label word to 22 mm, and print one label before the batch.
A Western varsity slab reads as a routed ranch sign rather than a modern logo. The slabs hold at 90 mm on a sign, and two flat inks print the sign and the cards in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Sign 1200 x 400 mm, word 140 mm with 12 mm chamfer clearance, 25 mm safe edge. Card 85 x 55 mm, word 16 mm, 5 mm margins. Door plate 300 x 80 mm, word 40 mm, 10 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 300 x 80 mm plate at 40 mm closes the chamfer into a blunt corner and the mark reads as a plain bar. Raise the plate to 50 mm, and check one plate before the run.
A chamfered varsity slab reads as a championship banner rather than a printed notice. The chamfers hold at 150 mm across a banner, and two flat inks print the banner and the certificates in one pass.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Banner 2000 x 600 mm, word 180 mm with 15 mm chamfer clearance, 40 mm safe edge. Patch 90 x 60 mm, word 34 mm, 4 mm edge margin. Certificate A5 landscape, word 30 mm, 12 mm margins.
Pre-production check
An embroidered patch at 34 mm merges the spur into a plain slab. Keep patch lettering at 40 mm or above, and approve one sample before the order.
