Visual anatomy & craft review
Batikaya is a woodcut-style folk display whose letters are filled, not outlined, with traditional wax-resist spirals, dots and leaves in indigo and ochre, so a word reads as a carved panel of batik cloth rather than as type. The pattern is dense and interior, which means the face needs size for the motifs to read as batik and it works best on a dark ground where the ochre glows. It needs roughly 34 mm for the interior motifs to hold, and it is best in ochre and sand on indigo or in one warm ink on dark teak.

Wax-resist motifs inside the letters read as a hand-dyed cloth label, which is what a small textile or coffee business prints. The dense interior holds at 40 mm on a carton lid in one warm ink, and the motifs give the label its origin story without a photograph.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Label 70 x 95 mm, name 16 mm, weight 5 pt, 5 mm top arc and 4 mm die margin. Carton 200 x 150 x 80 mm, word 44 mm on the lid, 25 mm margins. Sign 900 x 400 mm, word 160 mm, 60 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 16 mm label name closes the spiral motifs into a solid block and the batik detail disappears. Keep the name at 20 mm or above, and check one applied label on a filled bag.
Woodcut batik lettering reads as a craft-history title, which is what a museum publication wants. The motifs hold at 90 pt on coated stock, and the indigo and ochre palette gives the cover its subject without an image.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Cover 210 x 280 mm, title 90 pt, subtitle 12/16 pt, 20 mm margins and 10 mm trim. Opener 420 x 297 mm, headline 120 mm, body 9.5/14 pt. Panel 1200 x 800 mm, title 200 mm, notes 18/24 pt.
Pre-production check
A 90 pt title on uncoated stock spreads the fine spirals until the interior mottles into a stain. Print on coated stock or enlarge the title to 120 pt, and check one printed sheet before the run.
Dyed-cloth motifs read as a heritage wedding suite, which is what a couple marrying in family tradition wants. The dense letters hold at 28 pt on a thick card, and the ochre on indigo palette carries the suite in two inks.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invitation 130 x 180 mm, names 28 pt, details 9/13 pt, 15 mm margins. Menu 120 x 210 mm, header 16 pt, dishes 9/13 pt. Sign 600 x 900 mm, names 90 mm, 25 mm frame clearance.
Pre-production check
Two inks over a dense motif pattern need perfect registration, and a 0.3 mm shift leaves an ochre fringe on every spiral. Print the suite in one ink or as a single flattened composite, and check one proof at final size.
