Condensed varsity slab
Summer Varsity is a condensed varsity slab in white on a sunset photograph of palms: tall narrow caps with heavy flat serifs, a high waist and narrow counters, set in two stacked lines with small tracked captions above and below, so the block reads as a team banner.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The two words are stacked and the drawing is a condensed slab: the serifs are wide blocks, the stems are heavy, and the width is tight enough that a long word fills the plate without stretching. The counters are narrow but open, which keeps the face readable at a distance despite the condensed width. The plate's palette is a single white on a warm photograph, which shows how the face behaves over an image rather than on a flat ground, and the small tracked captions above and below frame the block in the manner of a sports poster. Because the letters are heavy, the face works at banner size and on fabric, and the specimen sets it at a size where the slab serifs are visible as blocks rather than as hairlines.

A condensed varsity face fits a long team name on a banner without shrinking the height, and the heavy slabs hold on vinyl in daylight.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print 1,200 by 500 mm: the team at 170 mm cap height, the fixture in a 34 mm sans, and a 6 mm border. Keep 30 mm margins and print white on a coloured ground so the slabs stay crisp.
Pre-production check
Check the banner at six metres, where narrow counters can close; keep them above 8 mm. Confirm the 34 mm fixture reads at four metres and that the border clears the eyelets.
A varsity face reads as kit rather than merchandise, and the condensed width lets a long team name sit across a chest without a second line.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 260 mm chest graphic: the team at 55 mm cap height, the number at 70 mm, and one ink on a light shirt. Keep the thinnest serif at 4 mm so the screen holds and place the graphic 80 mm below the collar.
Pre-production check
Check the screen at actual mesh, where a 4 mm serif fills; thicken it. Wash-test one shirt and confirm the number stays legible after five cycles.
A condensed slab gives a sports annual the look of a fixture poster, and the tall letters let a long title hold a cover width on one line.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the title at 100 mm cap height across 220 mm, the subtitle in a 12 pt sans, and the season at 9 pt caps. Print two colours on a photograph and keep the title over the darkest third.
Pre-production check
Check the title at thumbnail size, where the condensed forms can clot; open the spacing slightly. Confirm the 9 pt season survives lamination and that the title clears the trim by 10 mm.
