Simple handwritten script

Sublimation

Sublimation is a simple handwritten script in black on a cream wall: a light stroke with gentle contrast, upright letterforms, small loops on the ascenders and open counters, so the word reads as a name written with a fine brush pen rather than as a formal calligraphy.

Visual anatomy & craft review

Letterform structure
of Sublimation.

The word is set once, large, and the drawing is everyday hand lettering: the strokes are light, the joins are drawn with visible connections, and the loops on the l and the b are small rather than showy, which keeps the phrase readable at any size. The angle is almost upright, which makes the face calmer than a slanted script, and the counters stay open, so a long word holds together without crowding. Because the stroke is light, the face needs a large size and a clean ground, and the specimen uses a plain plaster wall with soft palm shadows, which gives the black enough contrast without a frame. The only other element is a small tracked caption at the foot, which keeps the plate reading as a simple sample.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Sublimation’s stroke geometry.

Brand & packaging

Label for a home fragrance

A calm handwritten script reads as a signature on a small label, and the upright letterforms stay legible on a narrow jar where a slanted script would wrap awkwardly.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Print a 50 by 80 mm label: the scent at 15 pt, the volume in a 6 pt sans, and the maker at 7 pt. Keep 4 mm inside the die and print one ink on a cream stock so the light stroke reads as pen on paper.

Pre-production check

Check the 15 pt scent on cream, where a light stroke can fade; keep the ink dark and the size above 12 pt. Confirm the 6 pt volume reads on the shelf and that the label sits flat on a curved jar.

Wedding

Menu for a relaxed wedding

A simple script gives a relaxed wedding a personal tone without the formality of a calligraphy, and the upright setting keeps a long menu readable at arm's length.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

A5 menu: the heading at 26 pt, the courses at 10 pt with 16 pt leading, and the date at 8 pt. Keep 20 mm margins and print one ink on a cream card so the light stroke stays crisp.

Pre-production check

Check the 26 pt heading, where a join can collide with the first course line; keep 8 mm clear. Confirm the 10 pt courses read in low light and that the heading holds at half size in a photo.

Thank you

Card for a thank-you note

A simple script reads as a handwritten greeting, and the light stroke leaves space for a longer message without the card looking crowded.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

A6 folded card: the greeting at 28 pt, the message in a 9 pt roman at 13 pt leading, and the signature line at 15 pt. Keep 14 mm margins and print one ink on a soft white card.

Pre-production check

Check the 28 pt greeting, where a narrow counter can fill at home-print sizes; keep the size above 24 pt. Confirm the 9 pt message reads comfortably and that the signature line leaves room for a pen.
