Visual anatomy & craft review
Simple Cowboy is an inline-chiselled Western frontier slab serif: heavy unbracketed slabs, a carved inline running down each stem, exaggerated spur serifs on the diagonal strokes and a high cap height that reads as a routed ranch sign. The inline is the design and it fills when the face is reversed or printed small. It needs roughly 30 mm for the inline and the spur to read, and it is best in one dense ink on timber-grey stock, or a routed cut where the inline becomes a groove.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Simple Cowboy’s stroke geometry.
An inline-chiselled slab reads as a routed ranch sign rather than a modern logo. The inline holds at 90 mm on a sign, and one ink prints the sign and the cards in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Sign 1200 x 400 mm, word 140 mm with 12 mm inline clearance, 25 mm safe edge. Card 85 x 55 mm, word 16 mm, 5 mm margins. Door plate 300 x 80 mm, word 40 mm, 10 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 300 x 80 mm door plate at 40 mm fills the inline and the mark reads as a solid bar. Raise the plate to 50 mm or keep the inline at 2.5 mm, and check one plate before the run.
A Western slab reads as a printed frontier bill rather than a modern flyer, which is what an autumn fair wants on a fence. The spurs hold at 100 mm on a poster, and one ink prints the poster and the prize labels in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Poster A2, word 100 mm with 12 mm inline clearance, details 34 mm, 20 mm margins. Tent sign 600 x 400 mm, word 90 mm, 25 mm margins. Prize label 90 x 60 mm, word 16 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 90 x 60 mm prize label at 16 mm fills the inline and the word reads as a stain. Raise the label word to 22 mm, and print one label before the batch.
A frontier slab reads across an arena at distance where a thin face would vanish. The spurs hold at 150 mm on a poster, and one ink prints the poster and the tote from one separation.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Poster A2, word 150 mm with 15 mm inline clearance, details 44 mm, 20 mm margins. Arena banner 3000 x 800 mm, word 260 mm, 60 mm safe edge. Tote print 300 x 300 mm, word 70 mm, 25 mm margins.
Pre-production check
Screen printed on a tote at 70 mm the inline bridges and fills after a wash. Use a 2 mm stencil bridge, and wash one sample before the order.
