Visual anatomy & craft review
Western Vintage is a tall condensed Western saloon slab serif: heavy squared slabs on a narrow body, a very tall ascender, a spurred stem and a set of inline and shadow companions in the same proportions. It is the lettering of a saloon sign and a rodeo poster, so it wants height and one flat ink rather than a soft palette. The slab spurs are the finest element and they fill first at small sizes. It needs roughly 38 mm for the slab and the spur to read, and it is best on a painted board or a kraft ground.

A tall Western slab reads as a painted saloon board rather than a modern logo. The slabs hold at 90 mm on a sign, and one flat ink prints the sign and the coasters in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Sign 900 x 600 mm, word 120 mm with 14 mm slab clearance, 25 mm margins. Coaster 95 mm round, word 16 mm, 4 mm die margin. Card 85 x 55 mm, word 22 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
On a 95 mm coaster at 16 mm the spurs fill and the word reads as a solid bar. Raise the coaster to 24 mm, and print one coaster before the batch.
A condensed Western slab gives an autumn fair the look of a printed rodeo bill rather than a modern flyer. The slabs hold at 100 mm on a poster, and one warm ink prints the poster and the crate labels in one pass.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Poster A2, word 120 mm with 14 mm slab clearance, details 34 mm, 20 mm margins. Stall card 105 x 75 mm, word 20 mm, 5 mm margins. Crate label 120 x 90 mm, word 28 mm, 6 mm margins.
Pre-production check
On a 120 x 90 mm crate label at 28 mm the inline companion closes and the word loses its counters. Set the label in the solid cut only, and print one label before the batch.
A tall Western slab reads as a printed rodeo banner rather than a modern event poster. The slabs hold at 160 mm on a banner, and two flat inks print the banner and the tickets in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Banner 1200 x 400 mm, word 160 mm with 16 mm slab clearance, 25 mm safe edge. Ticket 100 x 50 mm, word 14 mm, 4 mm perforation. Cup print 70 x 50 mm, word 18 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 70 x 50 mm cup panel at 18 mm fills the spurs and the word prints as a block. Raise cup type to 26 mm, and check one printed cup before the order.
