Visual anatomy & craft review
The word is set in one line across a dark ground, and the face is a blackletter built for display: each capital carries a heavy vertical stem with a fine hairline on the left, the A and the V spike into the baseline, the R and the T end in diamond serifs, and the O closes into a pointed oval with a diamond at each corner. The contrast is extreme, thick stems against near-hairline joins, which is what gives the medieval look and also what limits the size range. Above the word sits a drawn crown on a curved band, below it a shield with a cross, and both are worked in the same gold as the letters so the frame and the type read as one object. A gold border with fleur-de-lis at the corners closes the composition, and the ground is a dark green surface that suggests stone and cloth. Raventhorn is a decorative face for game titles, event posters, packaging and editorial covers with a dark theme, and it needs a large size, a dark ground and very few words.

Spiked blackletter letterforms set the tone of the evening before a guest reads the date, and the heavy stems survive a dark print with low contrast.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 420 by 594 mm poster: set the title at 110 pt on one line, keep 45 mm of clear ground beneath before the date at 24 pt, and hold 30 mm of margin on all four sides.
Pre-production check
Hairline joins vanish when printed gold on dark stock; print one sheet and check the thinnest strokes under the venue light.
A display blackletter names a book with the authority of a title page, and the drawn frame lets the cover stand without an illustration behind the type.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 135 by 205 mm cover: set the title at 40 pt over two lines, keep 18 mm of clear ground beneath before the author at 12 pt, and hold 12 mm of margin on all four sides.
Pre-production check
Long titles set in blackletter become unreadable; keep the title to one or two short words and let the subtitle take the rest.
A spiked blackletter suits a drink sold on old methods, and the diamond serifs give a small label a crafted look that a modern face would flatten.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 55 by 80 mm label: set the brand at 19 pt on one line, keep 7 mm of clear ground beneath before the strength at 5 pt, and hold 5 mm of margin on all four sides.
Pre-production check
A high-contrast face at nineteen points loses its thin stroke in flexo; print one label on the real stock and check before the order.
