Visual anatomy & craft review
Melted Groove is a nineteen-seventies bell-bottom serif display in which the stems flare at the foot and the baseline undulates like a wave: soft bracketed serifs that sweep outward, a heavy even weight and a rise and dip that carries across the whole word. The wave grows the word vertically and the flare widens the base, so a centred line needs clearance on all sides. It needs roughly 30 mm for the flare and the undulation to read, and it is best in two warm inks on cream, or one saturated colour on white where the sweeping base stays graphic.

A bell-bottom serif reads as a hand-lettered sleeve rather than a modern logo, which is what a record shop wants on its bag. The sweep holds at 40 mm on a sleeve, and two warm inks print the bag and the sleeve from one file.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Sleeve 300 x 300 mm, word 60 mm with 12 mm flare clearance, 20 mm margins. Bag print 200 x 250 mm, word 40 mm, 15 mm margins. Card 85 x 55 mm, word 14 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
On an 85 x 55 mm card the undulation lifts the last letter off the line and the name looks crooked. Keep the card word at 20 mm on a straight segment, and check one card before the run.
A wavy bell-bottom serif reads as a painted coffee sign rather than a printed advert, which is what a small roastery wants in autumn. The heavy stems hold at 90 mm on a poster, and one ink prints the poster and the cups in one pass.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Poster A3, word 90 mm with 12 mm flare clearance, details 28 mm, 18 mm margins. Menu board 600 x 900 mm, header 80 mm, items 26 mm, 30 mm margins. Cup print 70 x 50 mm, word 14 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 70 x 50 mm cup panel at 14 mm closes the bracketed flare and the word reads as a plain serif with a wobble. Raise cup type to 20 mm, and check one printed cup before the order.
A seventies serif suits a summer festival because the sweeping base reads as a hand-painted banner at distance. The wave holds at 140 mm on a poster, and two inks print the poster and the tote from the same artwork.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Poster A2, word 140 mm with 18 mm flare clearance, details 40 mm, 20 mm margins. Stage banner 3000 x 800 mm, word 260 mm, 60 mm safe edge. Tote print 300 x 300 mm, word 70 mm, 25 mm margins.
Pre-production check
Screen printed on a tote at 70 mm the flare merges with the wave and the word reads as a liquid stain. Use the flat cut on fabric, and wash one sample before the order.
