Visual anatomy & craft review
Dotty Outline is a marquee-bulb and pearl-dot outlined slab alphabet with numerals: open slab letters drawn only as an outline, studded with evenly spaced round dots that read as bulbs, plus a matching numeral set for prices and dates. The dots are the design and they merge into a solid edge once the face is reduced. It needs roughly 32 mm for the dot pitch to read as separate bulbs, and it is best as a one-colour vinyl cut for a light box, or a flat two-colour print where the dots take the lighter ink.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Dotty Outline’s stroke geometry.
A marquee-dot slab reads as a lit fair sign rather than a printed notice. The dots hold at 100 mm on a marquee, and one ink prints the ticket and the prize label in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Marquee panel 1200 x 400 mm, word 140 mm with 12 mm dot clearance, 25 mm safe edge. Ticket 100 x 50 mm, word 16 mm, 4 mm perforation. Prize label 90 x 60 mm, word 20 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 100 x 50 mm ticket at 16 mm closes the dot pitch into a solid edge and the word reads as a plain outline. Raise the ticket to 24 mm, and print one ticket before the batch.
A marquee slab reads as a lit diner sign rather than a corporate logo, which is what a roadside café wants over its door. The dots hold at 90 mm on a sign, and one ink prints the sign and the price cards in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Sign 1200 x 400 mm, word 140 mm with 12 mm dot clearance, 25 mm safe edge. Price card 105 x 75 mm, item 20 mm, price 28 mm, 5 mm margins. Card 85 x 55 mm, word 20 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 105 x 75 mm price card at 20 mm merges the dots into a solid rule and the price reads as a bar. Raise the price to 30 mm, and check one card before the set.
A marquee slab with numerals reads as a lit market board, which is what a cold-evening stall needs. The dots hold at 60 mm on a board, and one ink prints the board and the bags in one pass.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Board 600 x 900 mm, word 100 mm with 12 mm dot clearance, dates 40 mm, 30 mm margins. Date board 400 x 300 mm, numerals 80 mm, 20 mm margins. Bag print 200 x 250 mm, word 50 mm, 15 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 200 x 250 mm bag print at 50 mm wicks along the kraft fibre and the dots fill into a solid edge. Raise the word to 60 mm or print on coated kraft, and check one bag on the production stock.
