Uneven soft handmade serif with irregular stems and rounded slab feet
Darven is a handmade serif in which the stems are slightly uneven, the feet are rounded slabs and the counters are broad and soft, so a word looks carved or pressed rather than typeset.

Visual anatomy & craft review
The capital D is built as a wide bowl on a stem that thickens in the middle and narrows at the top, and its foot is a rounded slab that projects only slightly past the bowl. Every following letter repeats that irregularity: the a keeps a small bowl with a high shoulder, the r carries a soft arm, the v is cut at an angle with a blunt bottom, the e has a horizontal bar and a wide aperture, and the n repeats the shoulder of the a. Weight is heavy and slightly variable, as if the ink were pressed into paper, and no two stems are exactly parallel, which is what keeps the word from looking mechanical. Serifs are rounded rather than bracketed, and the spacing is generous. The cream ground and the small tracked captions are presentation; the typeface is the word.

A soft irregular serif reads as a printed label from a kitchen rather than a factory, and the heavy rounded feet hold up when the word is printed small on a jar band.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the brand at 15 pt on a 50 by 70 mm jar label, keep the flavour in the same family at 8 pt, and leave 6 mm above the brand so the rounded serifs are not crowded by the fruit illustration.
Pre-production check
Labels on glass are printed on a roll and wrapped; check the printed label on the actual jar and confirm the rounded feet still register after wrapping.
A handmade serif carries warmth without the period feel of a script, and because it is a text serif at heart it can hold a long section title at a modest size on the page.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the section title at 34 pt on the opening page, keep the body in a 10 pt serif with 14 pt leading, and hold 16 mm between the title and the first paragraph so the heavy feet have room.
Pre-production check
A heavy handmade serif on uncoated stock can look blotchy; print the opening page on the actual paper and check that the small counters inside the e and a stay open.
The uneven stems and rounded feet match a venue decorated with timber and linen, and the serif structure keeps the invitation formal enough for older guests to read comfortably.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set both names at 26 pt on a 120 by 180 mm card, keep the details in a lighter cut of the same family at 9 pt, and leave 10 mm between the names and the details so the heavy feet do not touch.
Pre-production check
Letterpress on cotton stock with a heavy serif needs deep impression control; ask for a plate proof and confirm the counters do not fill before the run is approved.
