Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
Doughie is an ultra-tall pillar-condensed retro poster sans at about five to one: narrow vertical stems, a very small counter, flat shoulders and a uniform weight that turns a word into a column of bars. The proportions fit a long title in a narrow measure, and the counter is the first thing to close at any reduction or in embroidery. It needs roughly 30 mm for the counter and the shoulder to read, and it is best in one dark ink on white and cream, or white on a dark ground where the narrow stems read as light pillars.

A pillar-condensed sans reads as a painted door strip rather than a designed logo, which is what a small studio wants beside its entrance. The narrow stems fit a long name on a 50 mm strip, and one ink prints the card and the strip from one file.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Door strip 50 x 700 mm, word 120 mm with 12 mm edge clearance. Card 85 x 55 mm, name 12 pt, details 7/9 pt, 5 mm margins. Poster 210 x 297 mm, word 70 pt, 18 mm margins.
Pre-production check
On an 85 x 55 mm card the details at 7 pt lose the counter and print as a grey line under the name. Raise details to 8.5 pt or move them to the reverse, and check one card before the order.
A five-to-one condensed sans stacks a long headline in a narrow column where a normal face would need three lines. The narrow stems hold at 64 pt on an opener, and the index rail stays legible at 9 pt in a 25 mm column.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Opener 210 x 297 mm, headline 64 pt in a 70 mm measure, standfirst 11/15 pt, body 9/13 pt, 18 mm margins. Index rail 25 mm wide, entries 9/11 pt. Cover band 210 x 50 mm, word 34 pt.
Pre-production check
At 9 pt on the index rail the counter closes and the entries read as vertical rules. Keep the rail at 10 pt and above, and proof one page at 1:1 before the run.
A pillar condensed sans fits a whole lineup on one narrow card where a normal face would need two. The tall stems hold at 150 mm on a field sign, and one ink prints the card, the sign and the shirt in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Lineup card 100 x 210 mm, acts 11 mm, times 10 mm, 12 mm margins. Field sign 900 x 600 mm, word 120 mm, 25 mm margins. Shirt back 300 x 400 mm, word 90 mm, 20 mm margins.
Pre-production check
On the 100 x 210 mm lineup card the 10 mm times close their counters and the running order becomes unreadable. Raise times to 11 mm or set them in a wider companion, and print one card before the event.
