Visual anatomy & craft review
Holly by Mozatype is a slender signature script with long horizontal entry and exit tails, tall open loops, 65 alternates and ligatures, so a name reads as a written signature that stretches across a card. The tails add width beyond the word, which the layout has to allow for, and the alternates are what keep two similar names from looking identical. It needs roughly 20 mm for the open loops to read, and it is best in crisp black on a warm wash or as a fine foil on matte board.

A slender signature with long tails reads as written on the card by hand, which is what a quiet wedding wants. The alternates let a long double surname stay elegant at 26 mm, and the fine weight foils neatly on smooth board.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invitation 130 x 180 mm, names 26 mm with 15 mm tail clearance, details 9/13 pt, 15 mm margins. Place card 90 x 50 mm, name 9 mm on an 11 pt leading. Sign 600 x 900 mm, names 90 mm, 25 mm frame clearance.
Pre-production check
The exit tail runs to the card edge and gets trimmed when the card is guillotined from a larger sheet. Keep 15 mm of clear card beyond the tail, and check one cut card before the suite.
A fine signature script reads as a personal Christmas card rather than a printed greeting, which is what a family sends. The long tails give a short greeting its movement, and the face holds at 9 mm on a 50 mm tag where a heavy script would fill.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Card 105 x 148 mm, greeting 20 mm with 10 mm tail clearance, message 8/11 pt, 12 mm margins. Tag 50 x 90 mm, word 9 mm with a 5 mm hole and 6 mm clear card. Print 210 x 297 mm, greeting 55 mm, 30 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A kraft tag at 9 mm breaks the fine stroke across the grain and the name looks scratched. Use smooth white tags for this script, and check one printed tag before the batch.
A slender script reads as a written courtesy, which is what a host thank-you needs after a weekend. The fine weight prints on smooth card at 9 pt without filling, and the tails give a short message a decorative line without a border.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Note 105 x 148 mm, greeting 18 mm with 10 mm tail clearance, message 7/10 pt, 12 mm margins. Card 120 x 170 mm, greeting 22 mm, 14 mm margins. Tag 45 x 80 mm, word 9 mm with a 4 mm hole and 6 mm clear card.
Pre-production check
A 7 pt message in a fine script on laid card reads as grey texture rather than words. Set the message in a companion roman at 8 pt, and check one proof on the actual card.
