Visual anatomy & craft review

Letterform structure
of Embroidery.

Embroidery is a tall narrow monoline print sans in caps with rounded corners and even stroke weight, drawn for clean minimal labels and easy cutting. Because the stroke is a single uniform line, the face converts to a stitch path or a cut path without redrawing, and the narrow stance fits a long word on a small hoop. It needs roughly 8 mm for the stitch to hold and roughly 18 mm for a cut shape, and it is best in charcoal on natural linen or one floss colour on white.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Embroidery’s stroke geometry.

Classroom & school

Craft-club hoop label, name tape and workshop card

A narrow monoline converts to a stitch path without redrawing, which is what a craft club needs for a name tape and a hoop centre. The uniform stroke keeps a club name legible at 8 mm on a 100 mm hoop, and the rounded corners stop a stitch from tearing the linen corner.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Hoop centre 100 mm round, word 8 mm, 12 mm margins. Name tape 120 x 20 mm, word 6 mm, 3 mm margins. Card 105 x 148 mm, heading 14 mm, details 7/10 pt, 12 mm margins.

Pre-production check

A stitch conversion at 8 mm packs the satin columns until the counters close and the word fills in on the hoop. Keep the word above 8 mm or switch to a running stitch, and stitch one sample on the actual linen before the club session.

Editorial & posters

Craft feature header, project caption and workshop poster

A tall monoline reads as a printed pattern label, which is what a craft magazine uses above project steps. The even stroke stays clean at caption sizes, and the narrow stance fits a materials list into a single column beside a photograph.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Feature 210 x 297 mm, header 54 mm, body 9/13 pt, 15 mm margins. Caption 60 x 40 mm, text 7/10 pt. Poster A2, word 260 mm, details 22/28 pt, 30 mm margins.

Pre-production check

A monoline weight printed at 7 pt on uncoated stock fills and the caption becomes bold, which flattens the hierarchy. Keep captions at 8 pt or above and check one printed page before the run.

Thank you

Personalised gift label, thank-you card and keepsake tag

Clean monoline lettering suits a name stitched or printed onto a gift, which is what a personal thank-you needs. The narrow caps fit a long recipient name inside a 60 mm label, and the same file stitches onto a linen tag with no redraw.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Label 60 x 40 mm, name 8 mm, 4 mm die margin. Card 105 x 148 mm, greeting 16 mm, message 8/11 pt, 12 mm margins. Tag 40 x 70 mm, word 7 mm, hole 4 mm with 6 mm clear card.

Pre-production check

A 40 mm tag with a 7 mm monoline leaves the stitch path too close to the punched hole and the linen frays from the hole outward. Keep 8 mm of clear linen around the punch, and check one finished tag before the batch.
