Western capitals with pinched sides and large broken ink patches
Cowboy Retro uses dark Western slabs with inward notches at mid-height, where broad pale chips break the heavy fill around the C and O and the word edges turn visibly irregular.

Fine grain and micro-texture excel in 300 DPI print, sublimation, and screen print rather than small vinyl weeding.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The feet spread wide, the sides pinch at the waist, the fill chips away in large patches and the outer contour stays uneven. That chipped fill is the character: the word reads as sun-worn paint on a board rather than a clean western face, which is why the cover scatters flecks beyond the letters. The flecks outside are not part of the letterforms, so keep the wording short, proof at the real size and expect large distress gaps to eat parts of small letters.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Cowboy Retro’s stroke geometry.
The chipped western slabs suit a gate sign, and the heavy feet read at 70 mm on a painted board, where the lost ink reads as weather.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Paint a 600 by 300 mm board: set the name at 70 mm on one row, keep the pinch at 5 mm minimum, and keep 26 mm of border so the chipped edges stay inside the frame.
Pre-production check
Large distress gaps painted at 30 mm remove whole strokes; check the mask and hold the name at 56 mm or above.
The worn slabs suit a seasonal label, and the pinched waists hold a two-word name at 24 pt on a 60 mm panel, above the produce line.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 60 by 40 mm label: set the name at 24 pt on one row, keep 8 mm of clear ground beneath before the produce line at 7 pt, and keep 5 mm of border on each side.
Pre-production check
Chips printed on a small label read as damage; check the plate proof and keep the name at 22 pt or above.
The western letters set a themed poster, and the broad feet hold a short title at 54 pt on an A3 sheet, readable at a distance.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print an A3 poster: set the title at 54 pt on one row, keep 22 mm beneath before the times at 14 pt, and keep 22 mm of margin so the irregular edges stay whole.
Pre-production check
Two chipped rows stacked look like a printing fault; check the poster and keep the second line in a plain slab.
