Visual anatomy & craft review
Chunky Rough is a heavy geometric block slab serif, not a rough script: fat square stems, thick unbracketed slabs, closed counters and a slightly uneven edge where the block was cut. The weight fills the letter almost completely, so the counters close first at any reduction, and the uneven edge is the only texture. It needs roughly 30 mm for the counter and the cut edge to read, and it is best in one dense ink on cream and kraft, or a two-colour build where the slab edge carries a highlight.

A heavy block slab announces a party loudly, which is what a big birthday wants on the door. The slab edges hold at 40 mm on an invite, and two inks print the invite and the banner as one set.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invite A6, word 40 mm with 8 mm slab clearance, details 8/11 pt, 12 mm margins. Topper 130 x 110 mm, word 44 mm with a 6 mm stick slot and 12 mm clear. Banner 1500 x 400 mm, word 150 mm, 30 mm safe edge.
Pre-production check
A 130 mm laser-cut topper closes the counter on the O and the letter drops out of the card as a disc. Cut toppers from a lighter cut, and test one on a stick before the set.
A heavy block slab reads as a painted brewery mark rather than a modern craft logo, which is what a small taproom wants on its clip. The heavy stems hold at 30 mm on a pump clip, and one ink prints the clip, the crate and the card from one file.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Pump clip 100 x 60 mm, word 24 mm with 6 mm slab clearance, 6 mm margins. Crate print 300 x 200 mm, word 70 mm, 20 mm margins. Card 85 x 55 mm, word 14 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
At 14 mm on the card the counters close entirely and the brand reads as a solid block on the bar top. Keep the card word at 20 mm or use a lighter cut, and check one card before the run.
A heavy block slab gives a school event a banner a child can read from the far side of a field. The thick slabs hold at 180 mm on a banner, and two inks print the banner and the team signs in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Banner 2000 x 600 mm, word 180 mm with 15 mm slab clearance, 40 mm safe edge. Team sign 600 x 400 mm, word 90 mm, 20 mm margins. Certificate A5 landscape, word 30 mm, 12 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 180 mm banner letter cut from vinyl leaves a 1 mm counter web that peels in wind. Use printed banner stock or widen the counter at 150 mm, and hang one banner before the day.
