Visual anatomy & craft review
Black is a heavy sixteen-bit arcade boss-screen pixel block: chunky square pixels on a fixed lattice, a hard stepped outline and a near-solid interior that reads as a fighting-game title screen. The lattice is the design, so any non-integer scaling turns the pixels into uneven bricks. It needs roughly 36 mm at whole-pixel multiples for the lattice to stay true, and it is best in one bright ink on black, or two flat colours where the stepped outline takes the lighter one.

A pixel block announces a gaming party through the lettering alone. The lattice holds at 44 mm on an invite, and one bright ink prints the invite and the wraps as one set.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invite A6, word 44 mm at a 4 mm pixel pitch, details 8/11 pt, 12 mm margins. Topper 130 x 110 mm, word 48 mm at 6 mm pitch with a 6 mm stick slot and 12 mm clear. Cup wrap 200 x 90 mm, word 20 mm at 4 mm pitch, 12 mm from the rim.
Pre-production check
A cup wrap printed across the taper squeezes the pixel pitch at the seam and the word reads as uneven bricks. Keep the word inside the flat 60 mm centre band, and wrap one cup before the party.
A pixel block turns a gaming feature into its own title screen, which is what a retro piece wants at the top. The lattice holds at 60 pt at a whole-pixel multiple, and one ink keeps the steps crisp on coated stock.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Header 60 pt at a 2 mm pixel pitch with 8 mm outline clearance, body 10/14 pt over two columns of 82 mm, 18 mm margins. Opener 48 pt. Section head 24 pt at 1.5 mm pitch.
Pre-production check
At 24 pt on the section head the pixels fall between the printer's dots and the word reads as a jagged smear. Use whole-pixel sizes only, and proof one page at 1:1.
A boss-screen pixel block suits a horror-arcade night better than a gothic script. The lattice holds at 140 mm on a poster, and one bright ink prints the poster and the tickets in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Poster A2, word 140 mm at a 12 mm pitch with 15 mm outline clearance, details 40 mm, 20 mm margins. Ticket 100 x 50 mm, word 12 mm at 2 mm pitch, 4 mm perforation. Door sign 250 x 350 mm, word 60 mm at 6 mm pitch, 20 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 100 x 50 mm ticket at a 2 mm pitch falls off the lattice and the word reads as a noise bar. Keep tickets at a 3 mm pitch or larger, and print one ticket before the batch.
