Heavy varsity slab caps with a collegiate emblem build
Apex Varsity is a heavy varsity slab alphabet in which the caps sit wide and square, the serifs stay thick and the whole set is built to sit inside an athletic emblem, so a name reads as the lettering on a college banner.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The A carries a wide bar and a flat apex, the P closes a square bowl, the E stacks three heavy arms, the X crosses two thick diagonals and the V narrows to a blunt point, all at a slab weight with square serifs and almost no contrast. The emblem fit is the character: the sample sets the name across a bordered panel with a laurel, which is how a collegiate mark is built rather than typeset. Because the counters stay open and the weight is even, the face reads from 24 pt and holds a hoarding at 200 pt. The cream panel, the laurel, the stars, the ribbons and the small caps lines are presentation; the black display name is the face.

The collegiate slabs suit a school department, and the square weight holds a two-word name at 110 mm on a printed banner.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a two-metre banner: set the name at 110 mm, set the motto in a 30 mm caps line beneath, and keep 45 mm of border so the square serifs are not trimmed by the hem.
Pre-production check
A heavy slab at banner size shows every registration shift; check the print and keep the name in one solid ink.
The slab weight reads as stitched appliqué, and the square serifs hold a club name at 70 mm across a chest in one flat ink.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 300 mm chest print: set the club name at 70 mm, keep every serif at 4 mm minimum, and leave 35 mm of clear fabric beneath for the founding year.
Pre-production check
Serifs under 3 mm on a knit fill in with ink; check the film and widen the serif rather than the word.
The emblem build translates into a woven alumni patch cleanly, and the heavy slabs hold a name at 50 mm inside a drawn border.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Digitise an 80 mm patch: set the name at 50 mm, keep the border at 4 mm, and run the name as a satin fill with a running stitch outline so the square corners stay sharp.
Pre-production check
A square corner stitched with satin pulls the fabric; check the digitised preview and add a corner stitch before sewing.
