Visual anatomy & craft review
Western College is a hybrid display that fuses stout collegiate varsity slabs with pointed frontier waist spurs and a heavy drop outline, so a word reads as a college team wearing a rodeo badge. The double structure is dense, which means the face needs size to keep the outline and the spur separate, and the wide stance fills a panel with a short name. It needs roughly 30 mm for the spur and outline to read, and it is best in sand tan inside black on slate or two athletic colours on white.

Varsity slabs with frontier spurs read as a campus side with a regional identity, which is what a school athletics department orders. The drop outline gives the name depth on a dark shirt, and the wide stance holds a long college name at 70 mm.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Shirt back 300 x 100 mm, surname 70 mm, number 180 mm on a 220 mm pitch. Banner 2400 x 800 mm, word 360 mm, 150 mm margins with eyelets every 500 mm. Pep sign 600 x 400 mm, word 110 mm, 40 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A heat transfer at 70 mm bridges the 1.5 mm gap between the letter and its outline and the drop shadow disappears. Keep the gap at 2.5 mm on transfer artwork, and weed one name before the order.
Spurred collegiate slabs read as a western brand, which is what a tack or feed shop stamps on a tag. The heavy weight holds at 44 mm on a carton in one ink, and the drop outline survives an embossed leather tag.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Carton 200 x 150 x 80 mm, word 44 mm on the lid, 25 mm margins. Leather tag 60 x 40 mm, word 10 mm with 2 mm shoulder clearance. Sign 900 x 400 mm, word 160 mm, 60 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A hot stamp into 3 mm leather spreads the fill and the 1 mm spur closes to a lozenge. Widen the stamp die by 0.3 mm around the spur, and press one test tag before the order.
Collegiate western lettering reads as a harvest rodeo bill, which is what an autumn fair posts at the gate. The wide slabs hold at 300 mm in one vinyl colour, and the drop outline keeps the word legible against a painted fence.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Poster A2, word 300 mm, dates 22/28 pt, 30 mm margins and 20 mm trim. Banner 2000 x 600 mm, word 340 mm, 120 mm margins. Ticket 90 x 50 mm, word 12 mm, 3 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A two-layer outline printed on uncoated poster stock lets ink spread and the drop shadow merges into the letter at 300 mm. Print the outline as a separate spot colour, and check one poster pulled before the run.
