Graffiti brush display

Wallpaint

Wallpaint is a graffiti brush display in black with a white outline on a painted brick wall: heavy strokes with wet, ragged edges, chunky joins, a tall ascender and a loose baseline, with spray-painted marks around the word, so the plate reads as a fresh piece rather than a lettered sign.

Visual anatomy & craft review

Letterform structure
of Wallpaint.

The word is set once, large, and the drawing imitates a wide brush loaded with paint: the strokes are thick, the edges are uneven, and the terminals trail off in short tails rather than ending cleanly. The baseline drifts, which is what makes the letters look painted in sequence rather than placed, and the white outline separates the black from a busy wall without making the piece look like a sticker. Around the word the specimen scatters spray marks, question marks, an exclamation point and a few loose letters, which shows the face in the environment where it belongs. The plate also carries two file-format badges at the foot, which is the language of a commercial product listing rather than an art print.

Practical applications

Project & layout

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Wallpaint’s stroke geometry.

Brand & packaging

Mural mark for a skate shop

A graffiti brush face reads as a painted wall from the street, and the ragged edges mean the piece still looks hand-made when it is enlarged to a full shopfront.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Paint a 3,000 mm wall: the name at 900 mm cap height in one colour, a 60 mm outline at most, and the strapline in a 150 mm sans. Keep the strokes at least 80 mm wide so the roller holds the shape and paint on a primed brick surface.

Pre-production check

Check the mural at ten metres, where a thin tail can look like a drip; keep the tails above 40 mm. Confirm the strapline reads at twenty metres and that the outline does not fill the wall's texture after the first rain.

Birthday

Shirt graphic for a skate party

A painted brush face prints as a single screen and looks like a hand-drawn graphic on fabric, which is the right tone for a skate party rather than a formal invitation set.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Print a 250 mm chest graphic: the phrase at 60 mm cap height, the date at 16 mm, and one ink on a light shirt. Keep the thinnest tail at 3 mm so the screen holds it after washing.

Pre-production check

Check the screen at actual mesh, where a wet edge under 2 mm fills; thicken the tails for fabric. Wash-test one shirt and confirm the date stays legible after five cycles.

Classroom & school

Poster for a street art workshop

A graffiti display attracts a teenage audience in a way a corporate poster cannot, and the single colour keeps a school's print run cheap on coloured paper.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

A3 print: the headline at 90 mm cap height, the workshop details in a 12 mm sans, and a 6 mm border. Keep 25 mm margins and print one colour on a coloured stock so the outline treatment is unnecessary.

Pre-production check

Check the A3 at two metres, where the ragged edges can look like a printing defect; keep the brush detail above 4 mm. Confirm the 12 mm details read at arm's length and that the headline fits the sheet without shrinking.
