Lined athletic slab
Varsity Class is a lined athletic slab in white on a mottled dark ground: heavy caps drawn as a contour with an inner line and diagonal scratches running across every stroke, with a grey shadow offset behind and tracked lines above and beneath.

Fine grain and micro-texture excel in 300 DPI print, sublimation, and screen print rather than small vinyl weeding.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The two words are stacked and the drawing is an athletic slab presented as a lined cut: the outer contour carries the weight, an inner line follows it, and the fill carries long diagonal scratches rather than a random texture, so the face reads as worn enamel rather than as a distressed bitmap. That construction sets a size floor, because the inner line closes when the letters shrink, and the plate sets the block large enough that the line and the scratches are both visible. The grey offset behind the letters is a second colour that can be dropped for a flat version, which is the practical reason a sports identity chooses this kind of file. The tracked lines above and beneath are set in a plain face.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Varsity Class’s stroke geometry.
A lined athletic slab reads as a worn school banner, and the inner line stays visible at banner size where a flat block would look plain.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print 1,300 by 480 mm: the class year at 160 mm cap height, the school in a 34 mm sans, and two colours with a 5 mm offset. Keep 30 mm margins and print on a light vinyl.
Pre-production check
Check the banner at ten metres, where a 3 mm inner line can vanish; keep it above 6 mm. Confirm the 34 mm school line reads at five metres and that the eyelets clear the block.
A lined slab reads as a badge, and the two-layer construction lets a club print a flat version for embroidery and a shadowed one for a sign.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the mark at 70 mm on a banner, 30 mm on a jersey back and 14 mm on a card, keeping the inner line above 22 mm. Hold clear space equal to half the cap height.
Pre-production check
Check the 14 mm card mark, where the inner line closes; use a solid cut at that size. Confirm the 30 mm jersey mark reads at eight metres and that the stitch holds the contour.
A lined slab prints as two screens and looks like worn kit, which suits a leavers shirt far better than a crisp solid block.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 250 mm chest graphic: the class year at 70 mm cap height, the name at 32 mm, and two inks with a 3 mm offset. Keep the inner line at 4 mm and place the graphic 80 mm below the collar.
Pre-production check
Check the screen at actual mesh, where a 4 mm inner line can fill; thicken it. Wash-test one shirt and confirm the line stays open after five cycles.
