Hand-drawn blocky pixel display
Tonga is a hand-drawn pixel display in navy on a dotted tan ground: chunky capitals built from irregular square blocks, stepped edges that wobble by a pixel or two, and matching question and exclamation marks drawn in the same blocks.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The word is set at hero size and the construction is a pixel grid that has been drawn by hand rather than snapped: the counters are one or two blocks wide, the horizontals are two blocks deep, and the staircases are slightly uneven, which is what keeps the face from looking like a machine bitmap. Because the blocks are large, the face reads at a distance, and the letterforms are wide enough that the word fills the frame without tracking. The question and exclamation marks beside the word are drawn at the same block size, which shows the face includes punctuation at the display weight rather than only letters. The ground is a tan dotted pattern, and the caption beneath is set in a rounded sans with small decorative badges at the corners.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Tonga’s stroke geometry.
A blocky pixel face signals technology to students without the clichés of circuit diagrams, and the large blocks read from across a hall where a fine bitmap face would disappear.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print 900 by 500 mm: the club name at 120 mm wide, the meeting time in a 30 mm rounded sans, and a 6 mm block border matching the letter module. Keep the whole design on one module so the staircases align.
Pre-production check
Check the banner at full size, where uneven blocks can look like a rendering fault; keep the wobble consistent. Confirm the 30 mm time reads from six metres and that the border aligns with the letter grid.
A pixel face sets a gaming theme in one word, and the block construction prints cleanly on a home printer where a fine bitmap would blur.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
A6 card: the word at 36 pt, the details in a 9 pt rounded sans, and pixel punctuation at the corners. Keep the module at a whole number of pixels in the exported art so the blocks stay square.
Pre-production check
Check the 36 pt word on a home printer, where a fractional module makes the blocks uneven; export at a whole-pixel scale. Confirm the 9 pt details keep a 4.5:1 contrast and that the punctuation does not crowd the word.
A blocky pixel mark gives a game cafe a digital identity that still reads on a small label, and the single colour keeps the print cheap.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 55 mm round label: the brand at 16 pt, the opening hours in a 7 pt rounded sans, and a pixel border inside the die. Keep the block module large enough that the counters do not close at label size.
Pre-production check
Check the 16 pt brand on the label, where a two-block counter can fill; increase the module for the small size. Confirm the 7 pt hours read at arm's length and that the pixel border stays inside the die line.
