Visual anatomy & craft review
Standley is a layered vintage baseball and varsity brush script with an extrude layer: a loaded brush stroke with connected letters and a firm slant, delivered as a fill, a hard offset extrude and a keyline that can be printed in three passes. The extrude doubles the footprint and the brush edge is the finest element. It needs roughly 28 mm for the extrude and the brush edge to read, and it is best in three flat inks on jersey, or two inks where the extrude takes a darker tone of the fill.

A layered varsity script reads as a jersey mark rather than a printed notice, which is what a school team wants. The extrude holds at 90 mm on a back print, and three flat inks print the shirt and the banner from one separation.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Shirt back 300 x 400 mm, word 90 mm with 12 mm extrude clearance, 20 mm margins. Patch 90 x 60 mm, word 26 mm, 4 mm edge margin. Banner 2000 x 600 mm, word 180 mm, 40 mm safe edge.
Pre-production check
An embroidered patch at 26 mm merges the extrude into the fill. Keep patch lettering at 34 mm or above, and approve one sample before the order.
A layered varsity script reads as a painted shop sign rather than a corporate logo. The extrude holds at 30 mm on a crate, and three flat inks print the crate and the cards in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Crate print 300 x 200 mm, word 60 mm with 10 mm extrude clearance, 20 mm margins. Card 85 x 55 mm, word 16 mm, 5 mm margins. Sign 900 x 400 mm, word 120 mm, 25 mm margins.
Pre-production check
On an 85 x 55 mm card the extrude merges with the brush edge and the name reads as one thick ribbon. Keep the card word at 24 mm, and check one card before the run.
A varsity script reads as a season that has been played rather than a new flyer. The extrude holds at 130 mm on a poster, and three flat inks print the poster and the fixture cards in one pass.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Poster A2, word 130 mm with 15 mm extrude clearance, details 40 mm, 20 mm margins. Fixture card 148 x 105 mm, header 24 mm, fixtures 9 mm. Tote print 300 x 300 mm, word 70 mm, 25 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 148 x 105 mm fixture card at 9 mm fills the extrude into the fill and the dates read as a solid band. Set the card in a plain slab and keep the face for fabric, then print one card before the batch.
