Playful retro serif
Relvato is a playful retro serif in black on cream: chunky soft serifs, mixed-case letters with generous bowls, a slightly heavy weight, and a full character set displayed beneath the specimen, so the face reads as a friendly workhorse rather than a display one-off.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The specimen is built as a specimen sheet: the name at the top, a rule and a label, then the full upper and lower case and the numerals, and two example panels at the foot showing the face in use. The drawing is a soft retro serif: the serifs are thick and rounded at the corners, the weight is even, and the bowls of the o and the a are wide, so the face reads as warm rather than formal. Because the letters are wide and the x-height is large, the face holds at small sizes, which the character set panel makes visible: the numerals and punctuation are drawn to the same width system as the letters. The ground is a warm cream with green panels, and the whole specimen uses two colours plus the paper, which is how a cheerful brand would use it.

A playful retro serif reads as friendly and established at once, and because it holds at small sizes it can carry a bag label, a menu and a sign without a second face.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the mark at 30 pt on the bag, 16 pt on the cup and 80 mm wide for the window. Keep the mark one colour and place the roast line in a condensed sans beneath so the two voices stay separate.
Pre-production check
Check the 16 pt cup version, where the wide bowls can fill in; keep the type above 14 pt for the cup. Confirm the window decal weeds cleanly at 80 mm and that the mark holds on a kraft bag.
A warm retro serif gives section heads a friendly authority, and the wide characters keep a long heading readable at the size a magazine uses.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the section heads at 34 pt, the deck in a 10 pt sans, and the folio in 8 pt caps. Keep 12 mm between the head and the deck so the serifs do not crowd, and use the same size for every section to build a rhythm.
Pre-production check
Check the 34 pt heads over photographs, where a warm black can lose contrast on a mid-tone image; keep the type on a plain area. Confirm the 10 pt deck reads at arm's length and that the folio stays outside the image.
A soft retro serif reads as welcoming rather than corporate, which suits a cafe attached to a garden centre, and the wide letters stay legible on a board read from a distance.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 600 by 400 mm board: the cafe name at 100 mm cap height, the menu items in a 22 mm serif, and the prices aligned at the right. Keep 25 mm margins and print one ink on a pale board.
Pre-production check
Check the board at three metres, where the prices must align with their items; set them on a tab rather than by eye. Confirm the 22 mm items read at arm's length and that the ink does not bleed on the board's texture.
