Modern serif with quirky details
Refresh Thought is a modern serif in white over a close-up of a knitted texture: thin strokes, small sharp serifs, a tall x-height and a few deliberately odd details on the crossbars and terminals, set on two lines with a tracked line beneath naming the category.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The two words are stacked and the drawing is a modern serif with small irregularities: the crossbars sit slightly off centre, the terminals are cut at an angle, and one or two letters carry a detail that reads as a drawn correction. Those details are what separate the face from a neutral text serif, and the specimen sets it large enough that they are visible without becoming a joke. Because the strokes are thin, the face needs a smooth ground, and the plate places it over a soft knitted field where the blur keeps the background quiet. The tracked line beneath is set in a light face at a fraction of the size, and the palette is one colour over the photograph.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Refresh Thought’s stroke geometry.
A modern serif with small irregularities gives an essay cover personality without a display face, and the thin strokes hold at cover size.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the title at 85 mm cap height across 210 mm, the author in a 10 pt serif, and the imprint at 8 pt. Print white over a dark photograph and keep the title in the upper half.
Pre-production check
Check the title at thumbnail size, where thin strokes can disappear; keep the ground even behind it. Confirm the 8 pt imprint survives lamination and that the title clears the trim by 12 mm.
A serif with drawn quirks gives a studio a mark that looks made rather than licensed, and the tall x-height keeps it legible at card size.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the mark at 18 pt on a card, 75 mm on a wall and 10 pt in a footer, keeping the quirky letters in the wordmark only. Keep one colour and clear space equal to the x-height.
Pre-production check
Check the 10 pt footer on uncoated paper, where a thin stroke can fill; keep the size at or above 9 pt. Confirm the wall mark reads at six metres and that the quirks read as intentional.
A modern serif keeps a wedding menu contemporary, and the tall x-height holds a long dish description readable at table distance under low restaurant lighting.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
A5 menu: the heading at 22 pt, the courses at 9.5 pt with 15 pt leading, and the date at 8 pt. Keep 22 mm margins and print one ink on a cream card so the thin strokes stay open at table distance.
Pre-production check
Check the 9.5 pt courses at table distance, where a thin stroke can grey out; deepen the ink. Confirm the heading reads across the table and that the date clears the trim by 10 mm.
