Modern serif with softened joins

Rethena Font

Rethena is a modern serif in white over a deep blue portrait: moderate contrast, softened joins, round bowls and short bracketed serifs, set as one large word with a capital line beneath and small credits in the corners.

Visual anatomy & craft review

Letterform structure
of Rethena Font.

The word is set on one line across a portrait and the face is a modern serif with a warm finish: the contrast is moderate rather than extreme, the joins are rounded so the thin strokes meet the heavy ones without a hard corner, the bowls of the e and the o are wide circles, the R carries a curved leg and the t has a slanted top. The result is a serif that reads as friendly rather than formal, and the round shapes hold up well at large sizes without the brittleness of a didone. A capital line beneath the word names the style at a much smaller size in the same face, and two small credits sit in the bottom corners. The ground is a deep blue field with a warm portrait, so a single white weight has to carry the composition, which it does because the contrast stays moderate. Rethena is a serif for packaging, editorial titles, invitations and branding, and it works at both display and text sizes.

Practical applications

Project & layout

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Rethena Font’s stroke geometry.

Brand & packaging

Label for a small coffee brand

A softened serif reads as premium without the coldness of a didone, and the round bowls suit a brand that is sold on warmth and comfort.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Print a 60 by 90 mm bag label: set the name at 18 pt on one line, keep 6 mm of clear ground beneath before the origin at 6 pt, and hold 5 mm of margin on all four sides.

Pre-production check

A moderate contrast at eighteen points holds well, but check the joins on the real kraft paper before the order.

Editorial & posters

Cover for a food title

A warm serif titles a food book without the stiffness of a classical face, and the moderate contrast survives being printed over a photograph.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Print a 210 by 280 mm cover: set the title at 60 pt over two lines, keep 24 mm of clear ground beneath before the author at 12 pt, and hold 18 mm of margin on all four sides.

Pre-production check

A white serif over a warm photograph can lose its thinnest joins; proof one cover and check the contrast.

Wedding

Names on a relaxed invitation

A modern serif suits a wedding that avoids ornament altogether, and the round forms keep a formal card from feeling stiff or borrowed.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Print a 130 by 190 mm card: set the names at 28 pt on one line, keep 18 mm of clear ground beneath before the details at 8 pt, and hold 14 mm of margin on all four sides.

Pre-production check

Round bowls at twenty-eight points can close if the card is printed small; print one card at the final size first.
