Crisp hairline serifs shine on stationery, foil stamping, and packaging; add slight offset for small decals.
Visual anatomy & craft review
Jenif is a pure classical transitional serif with crisp flat serifs, tall f arches, sharp hairlines and a calm gallery poise, so a line reads as a museum label rather than a magazine masthead. The hairlines are very fine against sturdy verticals, which means the face needs size and a smooth stock, and the tall arch on the f is its signature. It needs roughly 26 mm for the hairlines to hold in print, and it is best in one ink on alabaster or as a fine foil on a matte cover.

A calm transitional serif reads as a gallery publication, which is what an artist's monograph needs on a cover. The tall f arch holds a long title in one line at 54 pt, and the flat serifs print cleanly on uncoated text stock at 10 pt.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Cover 240 x 300 mm, title 60 pt, subtitle 12/16 pt, 25 mm margins and 10 mm trim. Opener 420 x 297 mm, headline 90 mm, body 10/15 pt. Catalogue 210 x 280 mm, captions 8/11 pt.
Pre-production check
Uncoated 90 gsm stock spreads the hairlines at 10 pt and the page looks bold and dull. Print body copy on a 120 gsm or coated stock, and check one printed signature before the run.
A classical serif with flat serifs reads as a formal invitation without a script, which is what a pared-back wedding sends. The hairlines foil into fine strokes at 26 pt on matte card, and the face carries details at 9 pt in the same voice as the names.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invitation 120 x 180 mm, names 26 pt, details 9/13 pt, 18 mm margins. Menu 120 x 210 mm, header 14 pt, dishes 9/13 pt. Card 105 x 148 mm, heading 12 pt, text 8/11 pt.
Pre-production check
Block foil on a 0.2 mm hairline breaks in the press and the names arrive with gaps in the thins. Foil only names at 24 pt and above, print the rest in ink, and pull one foil proof.
A classical serif reads as a garden party invitation rather than a rustic one, which suits a spring lunch in a walled garden. The face holds a long list of courses at 9 pt, and the flat serifs stay crisp on lightly textured card where a script would break.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invitation 120 x 180 mm, names 26 pt, details 9/13 pt, 15 mm margins. Seed label 60 x 90 mm, name 12 pt, notes 6/9 pt, 4 mm die margin. Plan 420 x 297 mm, names 9 pt on a 12 pt leading.
Pre-production check
A seed packet is folded and a 6 pt note on the fold line cracks along the crease. Keep text 6 mm from every fold on the dieline, and check one folded packet before the batch.
