Letterform structure
of Graduation.
Graduation is an upright monoline script, semi-connected with deliberate breaks, in which the G, d, t and n open into teardrop ribbon loops that sit well above and below the line. The upright stance keeps it readable on a small acrylic sign where a heavily slanted script would drift, and the even ribbon weight means it plots, cuts and transfers without the joins thinning out. It is decorative in intent, so it wants a calm background, roughly 14 mm and up, and it should carry a name or a short greeting rather than a paragraph.

An upright ribbon script balances formality and celebration, which is what a graduation stage sign has to do in front of families. Even weight means a cap topper cut from card keeps its loops intact once it is folded over the mortarboard.

Sign 600 x 900 mm, class year 120 mm, names 40 mm, 60 mm margins. Cap topper 200 x 200 mm with a 60 mm fold, word 30 mm, 15 mm clear of the fold. Frame insert 150 x 100 mm, name 12 mm.
Pre-production check
Toppers fold at the centre and a script word crossing the fold cracks along the descender. Position the word 15 mm above the fold line and score before creasing, then check one folded topper against a real mortarboard.
