Visual anatomy & craft review
Elder Scrollmark is presented on a parchment sheet with the word set in a narrow serif whose terminals end in small sharp spurs, and the same lettering is repeated on the objects around it: a dark hang tag for a reserve collection, a bottle of spiced liqueur and a small label with a crest. A vertical panel at the left lists the palette and the uses, naming packaging, posters and invitations, and a caption at the top calls it a medieval-inspired display font. The lettering is quiet rather than ornate: it has no flourishes and no texture, and its character comes from proportion, with tall ascenders, small counters and a strong vertical rhythm. That is what makes it work on a label, where a busier blackletter would turn into a smudge, and it means the face can carry a product name and a small line of legal copy on the same label.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Elder Scrollmark’s stroke geometry.
The narrow serif suits a product with a long name, and the sharp spurs give a plain label a period finish without a drawn ornament beside it.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 65 by 105 mm label: set the product name at 22 pt on one row, keep 8 mm of clear ground beneath before the age statement at 5 pt, and hold 6 mm from the lowest spur to the die line.
Pre-production check
Fine spurs break on textured label stock; print one label on the real paper and check the terminals before the run.
The period tone is carried by proportion rather than ornament, which keeps a cover readable at thumbnail size on a shelf full of decorated jackets.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 140 by 216 mm cover: set the title at 56 pt across two rows, keep 24 mm of clear ground beneath before the author at 12 pt, and hold 17 mm from the widest letter to the spine edge.
Pre-production check
Narrow letters look thin over a dark painting; print one cover and check the contrast against the darkest area of the art.
The face gives a printed menu a medieval voice without a drawn border, and the small counters stay open by candlelight where a lighter serif fails.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print an A5 menu: set the heading at 34 pt with the courses at 11 pt on 15 pt leading, keep 12 mm of clear ground under the heading before the first course, and hold 10 mm of margin at both sides.
Pre-production check
Menus are handled at the table; print one on the intended card and check the inks do not offset before the set.
