Visual anatomy & craft review
Doctor is a novelty display that builds geometric capitals out of medical equipment, with stethoscope tubing forming curves, bandage strips across the D and T, EKG traces inside the O counters and syringe forms in the stems, so a word reads as an illustrated alphabet rather than a text face. The illustration is inside the letters, which means the face needs size for the equipment to read, and it works best in flat colours with a clean keyline. It needs roughly 34 mm for the illustrations to hold, and it is best in surgical green and white on a dark ground or in one ink on a pale one.

An illustrated medical alphabet reads as a training poster, which is what a nursing course puts on a wall. The equipment gives the word its subject without a photograph, and the flat colours print in two passes on a school machine.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Poster A3, word 200 mm, details 20/26 pt, 25 mm margins and 15 mm trim. Display 1200 x 300 mm, letters 180 mm cut from card with 12 mm bridges. Certificate A4, header 24 mm, name 16 mm, body 9/12 pt.
Pre-production check
At 180 mm the syringe and tubing details need 1 mm gaps, and a hand-cut card letter drops them as separate pieces. Keep illustrations print-only or bridge at 1.5 mm, and check one cut letter before the set.
Medical illustration reads as a themed party for a child of a clinician, which is what a family birthday is. The equipment gives the topper its joke at 50 mm, and one green ink on white keeps the set coherent.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invite A6, word 40 mm, details 8/11 pt, 12 mm margins. Topper 130 x 110 mm, word 50 mm with an 8 mm slot and 12 mm clear. Label 60 x 90 mm, word 12 mm, 4 mm die margin.
Pre-production check
A 50 mm topper closes the EKG trace inside the O into a solid dot and the counter disappears. Keep the topper at 60 mm or use the plain letters, and cut one prototype before the batch.
An illustrated medical face reads as a thank-you from the profession rather than a generic card, which is what a ward gift needs. The equipment gives the card its reference in one colour, and the heavy forms hold at 22 mm.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Card 148 x 105 mm, heading 16 mm, message 8/11 pt, 12 mm margins. Insert 85 x 55 mm, word 10 mm, 5 mm margins. Print 210 x 297 mm, word 60 mm, 30 mm margins.
Pre-production check
An 85 x 55 mm insert closes the stethoscope tubing into a solid shape and the word looks like a blot. Keep small formats in a plain sans, and check one printed insert before the batch.
