Visual anatomy & craft review
The capital D opens as a heavy stem with a shaded channel running through it, and the letters after it repeat that treatment: the a and the b close bowls with thin inner lines, the l rises into a loop that sends a ribbon out to the left and the o wraps a flourish over itself. What defines the face is the ornament: swashes leave the word above and below, curving back across the letters, and the shading inside the stems gives the lettering an engraved, almost metalwork quality. Weight is heavy at the outline and light inside, so the face needs to be set large to keep the inner lines visible. The dark ground, the neon inks and the small circular credits are presentation; the script is the word and its flourishes.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Diablo’s stroke geometry.
The ornamental flourish carries a cover without illustration, and the shaded stems give the title a metalwork quality that holds up over a dark photograph.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the title at 80 pt across the upper half of the cover, set the issue line in a small caps sans at 10 pt, and leave 25 mm below the flourish so the cover stays readable.
Pre-production check
Inner shading under 0.2 mm disappears on a dark ground; check the proof at final size and keep the shaded channel wide enough to read.
The ornamental script gives an evening invitation its drama, and the ribbon flourishes supply the decorative frame that would otherwise need a border.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set both names at 28 pt on a 130 by 190 mm card, set the details in a small caps serif at 8 pt, and hold 22 mm below the lowest flourish so nothing collides.
Pre-production check
Ribbon flourishes printed close to the details read as an error; check the proof at final size and remove one flourish rather than moving the text.
The ornamental weight sets a period tone on a title page without falling back on blackletter, and the shading gives the page a printed-engraving feel.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the title at 44 pt on an A5 title page, set the author in a small caps serif at 10 pt, and leave 24 mm between the flourish and the imprint at the foot.
Pre-production check
Uncoated book stock closes the inner shading; print the title page on the actual paper and open the channel if it begins to fill.
