Visual anatomy & craft review
Comic Stone is a chunky prehistoric cartoon display whose letters are shaped like cracked limestone boulders, with fat faceted blocks, uneven outer edges and surface fissure lines carved across the faces. The fissures are thin and they are the only texture, so the face needs size for them to read as cracks rather than noise, and the irregular silhouette means every letter has its own outline. It needs roughly 35 mm for the fissures to hold, and it is at its best in stone grey or warm sand on a dark earth ground.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Comic Stone’s stroke geometry.
Boulder letters read as a prehistoric cartoon, which is exactly the theme a six-year-old asks for. The chunky forms cut cleanly as a topper at 50 mm, and the fissure lines give the banner texture without a printed illustration.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Banner 900 x 300 mm, word 130 mm, 40 mm margins and 25 mm clear of each eyelet. Topper 130 x 110 mm, word 50 mm, 8 mm stick slot with 10 mm clear. Invitation A6, word 40 mm, details 8/11 pt, 12 mm margins.
Pre-production check
Fissure lines under 0.5 mm at 50 mm close on a laser cut and the topper comes out solid, which looks like a plain block. Raise the word to 60 mm or drop the fissures, and cut one topper before the batch.
Carved boulder letters read as a fossil-hall label, which suits a natural-history programme for families. The irregular outlines give a cover weight without an illustration, and the face holds in one flat ink so a school printing budget works.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Cover 210 x 297 mm, title 90 mm, subtitle 14/18 pt, 18 mm margins. Panel 1200 x 800 mm, word 200 mm, 80 mm margins and 30 mm frame clearance. Flyer A5, word 60 mm, details 8/11 pt.
Pre-production check
A 1200 mm wall panel printed from a 300 dpi file upscales the fissure lines into soft grey bands. Supply the panel at final size with vector edges, and inspect one print at 1:1 before mounting.
Stone letterforms read as an outdoor adventure theme, which is what a summer camp sells to parents on a first visit. The heavy weight survives a plastisol print and a hanging banner, and one colour keeps the shirt cheap.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Banner 1500 x 400 mm, word 260 mm, 100 mm margins and eyelets every 500 mm with 40 mm clear. Sign 600 x 400 mm, word 120 mm, 40 mm margins. Shirt print 260 x 140 mm, word 55 mm, 40 mm from the collar.
Pre-production check
Plastisol bridges a 0.6 mm fissure at 55 mm on a shirt and the crack disappears into the fill. Set the shirt word at 70 mm or print the fissures as a halftone, and approve a strike-off before the run.
