Visual anatomy & craft review

Letterform structure
of Marshmallow Squish.

Two words are stacked in two colours, one pink and one lilac, and the face is a fat rounded display: the stems swell in the middle, the bowls close into full shapes, the letters touch or nearly touch, and the baseline lifts between them so the words look stacked by hand. Each letter is surrounded by a heavy white outline with a soft shadow, which lifts the block off the page and lets the words sit over a patterned ground without a panel behind them. The counters are open enough to keep a short word readable at a distance, and the stroke has no contrast at all. Around the block a cream page is scattered with drawn marshmallow characters with faces, a rainbow swirl, sparkles, stars and a small banner line naming the mood. Marshmallow Squish is a display face for children's products, party goods, sweet packaging and social graphics, and it needs two short words, a large size and a light ground.

Practical applications

Project & layout
blueprints.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Marshmallow Squish’s stroke geometry.

Birthday

Banner for a children's party

A chubby outlined face reads across a room and looks right in party photographs, and the two colours let it carry a name and a greeting at once.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Print a 700 by 300 mm banner: set the greeting at 110 pt over two lines, keep 26 mm of clear ground beneath before the date at 26 pt, and hold 22 mm of border on all four sides.

Pre-production check

A heavy outline on fabric can bleed; print one section at final size and check the edge before the order.

Classroom & school

Sticker for a classroom reward

A soft rounded face makes a reward sticker feel like a treat, and the heavy outline keeps it visible on a shirt or a notebook cover.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Print a 40 mm round sticker: set the word at 14 pt on one line, keep 5 mm of clear ground inside the die, and hold the artwork 4 mm clear of the circle edge.

Pre-production check

A round die can clip the outline; keep the block centred and cut one sticker before the sheet.

Summer

Label for a marshmallow pack

A chubby face matches a soft product, and the white outline separates the words from a printed film where a plain colour would disappear.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Print a 90 by 60 mm film label: set the brand at 18 pt on one line, keep 7 mm of clear ground beneath before the weight at 5.5 pt, and hold 5 mm of margin on all four sides.

Pre-production check

White ink on clear film needs a base coat; print one label on the real film and check the opacity before the run.
