Visual anatomy & craft review

Letterform structure
of Bubble Whiskey.

Bubble Whiskey is a rounded bubble display in which each stem swells into a soft lofted tube, the counters close to small slits, and highlight arcs sit inside the strokes as drawn reflections. The swelling means neighbouring letters nearly touch, so tracking cannot be removed without merging the word. It needs roughly 30 mm for the highlight arc and the loft to read, and it is best in one deep amber or black on cream, or a two-ink build where the highlight is bare paper.

Practical applications

Project & layout
blueprints.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Bubble Whiskey’s stroke geometry.

Birthday

Party invite, balloon-letter banner and cake topper

A lofted bubble display reads as an inflated balloon rather than a typeset title, which is what a birthday wants above the table. The highlight arc gives the letters their shine at 40 mm, and one ink on coloured card leaves the arc as paper for a cheap print.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Invite A6, word 40 mm with 6 mm loft clearance, details 8/11 pt, 12 mm margins. Banner 1500 x 400 mm, word 150 mm, 30 mm safe edge. Topper 120 x 100 mm, word 42 mm with a 6 mm stick slot and 12 mm clear.

Pre-production check

A 120 mm topper cut through the highlight arc leaves a 1 mm island that falls out in the laser. Cut toppers to the silhouette without the arc, and test one on a stick before the set.

Summer

Pool-party poster, drink menu and towel tag

A bubble display reads as pool inflatables, which is the right visual joke for a summer party by the water. The lofted stems hold at 140 mm across a poster, and one bright ink on white prints the poster, the menu and the tag in a single pass.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Poster A2, word 140 mm with 8 mm loft clearance, details 40 mm, 20 mm margins. Menu 150 x 300 mm, header 50 mm, drinks 12 mm. Towel tag 60 x 90 mm, word 14 mm with a 4 mm hole and 8 mm clear.

Pre-production check

On a 60 x 90 mm towel tag at 14 mm the counters close into slits and the word reads as a chain of beads. Keep tags at 20 mm, and print one tag on the actual towel-loop card before the batch.

Valentine

Sweet-shop card, chocolate-bar sleeve and jar label

A lofted bubble display turns a sweet-shop message into the product itself, which is what a confectioner wants on a February sleeve. The highlight arc gives the word its gloss at 26 mm, and one deep ink on cream prints the card, the sleeve and the jar label together.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Card A6, word 26 mm with 6 mm loft clearance, note 8/11 pt, 12 mm margins. Bar sleeve 160 x 80 mm, word 20 mm, 8 mm margins. Jar label 70 x 45 mm, word 12 mm, 4 mm die margin.

Pre-production check

On a 70 x 45 mm jar label at 12 mm the loft closes the counter and the word prints as a solid amber blob. Raise the label word to 16 mm or use the plain variant, and label one jar before the batch.
