Visual anatomy & craft review
Blades of Fortunes is a heroic fantasy display serif in which the serifs flare into sword blades: heavy bracketed stems, flared blade terminals with a centre fuller, a tall cap height and a sharp bevel where the blade meets the stem. The blade flare widens the word, and the fuller is the finest element. It needs roughly 32 mm for the fuller and the flare to read, and it is best in one metallic on a dark ground, or a single dense ink on stone-grey stock where the bevel prints as a highlight.

A sword-flared serif reads as a printed genre cover rather than a designed headline, which is what a fantasy release wants at the top. The blades hold at 72 pt on a coated cover, and one metallic holds the flare against a dark ground.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Cover 130 x 198 mm, title 72 pt with 12 mm blade clearance, author 20 pt, 15 mm margins. Opener 56 pt. Part title 40 pt with 10 mm above and 8 mm below.
Pre-production check
At 40 pt on the part title the blade fuller closes into a flat serif and the title reads as a plain slab. Keep the face at 52 pt and above or use it for the cover only, and proof one page at 1:1.
A sword-flared serif gives a studio a mark that reads as a title screen rather than a corporate logo. The blades hold at 30 mm on a box, and one ink prints the box and the cards in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Box print 200 x 200 mm, word 50 mm with 10 mm blade clearance, 20 mm margins. Card 85 x 55 mm, word 14 mm, 5 mm margins. Banner 1000 x 500 mm, word 150 mm, 30 mm safe edge.
Pre-production check
On an 85 x 55 mm card the blade flare collapses into a blunt serif and the name reads as a generic slab. Keep the card word at 22 mm, and check one card before the run.
A blade-flared serif suits a dark fantasy night better than a cartoon monster face. The blades hold at 120 mm on a poster, and one metallic prints the poster and the plates in one order.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Poster A2, word 120 mm with 14 mm blade clearance, details 40 mm, 20 mm margins. Ticket 100 x 50 mm, word 12 mm, 4 mm perforation. Door plate 200 x 300 mm, word 60 mm, 20 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 100 x 50 mm ticket at 12 mm turns the blade into a blob and the word reads as a barbed bar. Raise the ticket to 18 mm, and print one ticket before the batch.
