Visual anatomy & craft review
Burstlock is a tall condensed fantasy serif that whips sweeping sword-blade legs off the R and K and thins into razor wing terminals, so a word reads as a game title rather than a book heading. The blades extend past the letter body in both directions, which grows the artwork box, and the condensed stance fits a long title in one column. It needs roughly 32 mm for the blades to read as deliberate, and it is best in bone white on a dark ground or in a single warm ink on a pale one.

Sword-blade serifs read as a game or novel title, which is what a fantasy series prints on a cover. The condensed column holds a long invented name at 56 pt, and the blades give the cover its subject without an illustration on the type.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Cover 152 x 229 mm, title 56 pt with 12 mm blade clearance, author 14 pt, 18 mm margins and 10 mm trim. Spine 40 mm wide, title 14 pt, 5 mm margins. Opener 420 x 297 mm, chapter 90 mm, body 10/15 pt.
Pre-production check
Blades extend past the type box and get trimmed when the cover is fitted to a template, and a 14 pt spine loses the blade entirely. Declare the artwork box and set the spine in the plain caps, then check the row of spines printed together.
Bladed fantasy serifs read as a studio that makes dark games, which is what a small developer prints on a box. The condensed stance fits a long studio name on a 180 mm band, and one metallic ink on a dark ground gives the mark weight.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Box 260 x 200 x 90 mm, name 40 mm with 10 mm blade clearance, 30 mm margins. Key art 1200 x 800 mm, word 220 mm, 60 mm margins. Card 85 x 55 mm, name 9 mm, 5 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 9 mm card name closes the blade spur into a blob and the mark reads as a plain serif. Keep the mark at 14 mm or above, and check one printed card at final size.
Blade-legged serif reads as a fantasy horror event, which is what a haunted forest runs in October. The bone on black palette carries at 260 mm in one ink, and the blades give the poster a threat without a photograph.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Poster A2, word 260 mm with 15 mm blade clearance, times 22/28 pt, 30 mm margins and 20 mm trim. Card 105 x 148 mm, word 26 mm, details 8/11 pt. Banner 1500 x 400 mm, word 240 mm, 100 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A poster stapled to a trail board takes side light and a bone word on black glares at the blade tips. Use a matte stock and check one poster on the board in torchlight before the trail opens.
