Visual anatomy & craft review
Ada is a Celtic-inspired display serif with angular cut shoulders, fine hairline joins, diamond dots and a runic flavour across the caps, so a word reads as an inscribed stone rather than a book face. The cuts are sharp and the hairlines thin, which means the face needs size and a smooth stock, and the diamond dots sit on the baseline as a deliberate mark. It needs roughly 30 mm for the cuts to read as chisel marks, and it is best in stone grey or a single dark ink on pale limestone, or as a foil on dark board.

Inscribed-stone lettering reads as a legend carved on a menhir, which is what a folklore or mythology list wants on a cover. The angular cuts give a title its subject without an illustration, and the hairline joins survive a coated offset run at 54 pt.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Cover 152 x 229 mm, title 58 pt, subtitle 12/16 pt, 18 mm margins and 10 mm trim. Spread 420 x 297 mm, opener 90 mm, body 10/15 pt. Panel 1200 x 800 mm, title 190 mm, notes 18/24 pt.
Pre-production check
Uncoated 90 gsm stock spreads the hairline joins at 12 pt and the subtitle looks bold beside the title. Keep the subtitle in a companion roman, and check one printed signature before the run.
Cut-shouldered Celtic forms read as a house built on stone, which is what a small brewery prints on a label. The angular caps hold in a spot ink on a matte label, and the diamond dot gives a short name a mark of its own without a second graphic.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Label 80 x 60 mm, name 16 mm, weight 5 pt, 4 mm die margin and 5 mm clear of the top arc. Card 85 x 55 mm, name 10 mm, 5 mm margins. Sign 900 x 300 mm, word 140 mm, 50 mm margins.
Pre-production check
A 16 mm label name on a curved bottle closes the 0.5 mm cut in flexo and the chisel edge turns round. Print labels digitally or keep the name at 20 mm, and check one applied label on a filled bottle.
Inscribed-stone lettering suits a handfasting or a historic venue, where a modern script would feel out of place. The angular cuts give the couple's names a carved permanence, and the hairline joins foil at 26 pt on matte card.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Invitation 130 x 180 mm, names 26 pt, details 9/13 pt, 18 mm margins. Vow card 105 x 148 mm, heading 16 pt, text 8/11 pt. Sign 600 x 900 mm, names 90 mm, 25 mm frame clearance.
Pre-production check
A venue sign carved or printed on slate loses a hairline join under 90 mm and the name reads as a gap. Thicken the joins to 1 mm on the sign file, and check one mounted sign in the venue light.
