Visual anatomy & craft review
Amor Hadena is a high-contrast Roman serif in which the terminals are not simply flared but drawn as full spiral swashes that coil inward, so the A, r, H and d each end in a curl that looks drawn with a pointed nib rather than generated. Ascenders are set unusually tall against a small x-height, which produces a fashion-magazine line rhythm: airy, slightly precarious, and dependent on generous leading. Hairlines are genuinely thin, so the face needs about 20 pt before the contrast holds, and it is a display and titling choice; setting paragraphs in it collapses the counters.

Spiral terminals read as drawn ornament rather than print decoration, which is the register a fragrance needs to signal craft without adding a pattern. Tall ascenders give a short product name a vertical presence on a narrow carton face where a normal-width serif would sit low and flat.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Carton 55 x 140 x 30 mm, name 22 pt on the front panel, 8 mm margins, legal copy 5.5/7.5 pt neutral sans on the back. Bottle label 40 x 70 mm, name 11 pt, 4 mm clear of the top arc. Lookbook cover A4, title 90 pt, 25 mm margins, one hairline rule 0.4 pt at 40 mm from the foot.
Pre-production check
The spiral curls are drawn with sub-0.2 mm hairlines and will not hold on uncoated board, nor on a foil at 11 pt. Ask for a 1:1 digital proof, measure the thinnest stroke, and either move the name to a coated stock or drop the curls on the smallest bottle.
The face treats romance as typography rather than calligraphy, so a couple planning a modern gallery wedding gets elegance without the looping script everyone else uses. Swashes on the capitals give the names a focal point while the Roman lowercase stays readable for dates and addresses.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Booklet 148 x 210 mm, 8 pages, names 30 pt on the cover, body 9/14 pt in a companion text serif. Programme A5, 12 mm margins, headings 16 pt, reading lines 8.5/12 pt. Menu 120 x 210 mm, course titles 13 pt, dishes 8/11 pt, 18 mm foot margin.
Pre-production check
Printed on uncoated textured stationery the hairline serifs fill in and the spiral ends flatten into blobs. Request a press proof on the actual 300 gsm stock, and if the curl reads solid, switch the names to the coated invitation card and keep the booklet body in the companion face.
Small x-height against tall ascenders creates the wide leading and narrow column rhythm that fashion pages run on, so a headline sits inside the grid instead of fighting it. Spiral terminals give a single large word enough incident to hold a full page without an image.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Spread 420 x 297 mm, headline 120 pt on a 130 pt baseline, three-typeface grid: display, 10/16 pt text serif, 7 pt caption. Advertisement 210 x 297 mm, product name 48 pt, 15 mm margins, legal line 5 pt at 8 mm from the foot. Masthead 200 mm wide, 60 pt, 40 units tracking.
Pre-production check
On a web-offset magazine run, hairlines under 0.1 mm drop out entirely and the swash ends look cut. Set a 0.12 mm minimum, and confirm with the printer which coated grade the signature runs on before fixing the headline size.
