Varsity slab with shadow
Varsity Shadow is an angular varsity slab in white and yellow on a blue ground: a top line of white caps with a yellow keyline and a dark offset shadow, and a second line in yellow with a white keyline, plus a small line above and a credit beneath and a hand-drawn number at the corner.

Sturdy stroke walls and open counters weed cleanly on adhesive vinyl, HTV apparel film, and cut cardstock.
Visual anatomy & craft review
The two words are stacked in two colourways, which is the point of the plate: the face is sold with the keyline and the shadow built in, so a buyer can judge how the same letters read in white on blue and in yellow on blue without setting up the layering. The drawing is an angular varsity slab with narrow counters and flat serifs, and the offset shadow is a duplicate of the letter shifted down and right, which is why it survives a single-colour print if the two elements are separated. The line above and the credit beneath are set in a plain bold face, and the hand-drawn number at the corner is staging. Because the counters are narrow, the face needs a large size, and the plate sets it as wide as the sheet allows.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Varsity Shadow’s stroke geometry.
A layered varsity slab reads as a real stadium banner, and the built-in shadow lets a sign shop produce depth with two passes of the same artwork.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print 1,500 by 520 mm: the fixture at 180 mm cap height, the year in a 36 mm slab, and three colours with a 6 mm shadow offset. Keep 32 mm margins and print on a light vinyl.
Pre-production check
Check the banner at twelve metres, where the 6 mm shadow can vanish; keep it above 10 mm. Confirm the 36 mm year reads at six metres and that the eyelets clear the shadow.
A varsity mark with a shadow reads as a badge, and the layered construction holds in embroidery when the offset is converted to a second stitch colour.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Set the mark at 70 mm on a pennant, 30 mm on a patch and 14 mm on a card, keeping the shadow only above 30 mm. Keep clear space equal to the shadow offset on every side.
Pre-production check
Check the 14 mm card mark, where the keyline closes; drop the shadow at that size. Confirm the 30 mm patch reads in stitch and that the pennant reads at six metres.
A layered varsity face prints as three passes and looks like official kit, which suits a class-of shirt better than a flat display face.
Hierarchy & layout recipe
Print a 260 mm chest graphic: the class year at 70 mm cap height, the name at 32 mm, and three inks with a 4 mm shadow. Keep the narrowest counter at 4 mm and place the graphic 80 mm below the collar.
Pre-production check
Check the screen at actual mesh, where a 4 mm shadow can fill; enlarge it. Wash-test one shirt and confirm the registration stays tight after five cycles.
