Cute monoline display with heart counters

Valentine Wishes

Valentine Wishes is a cute monoline display in cream on pink: tall rounded letters with a light even stroke, hearts cut into the counters of several letters, a curved baseline and soft terminals, with two ways of setting the phrase shown, so the plate reads as a hand-drawn card rather than an alphabet.

Visual anatomy & craft review

Letterform structure
of Valentine Wishes.

The two words are stacked and each letter is drawn with a single even line: the strokes are light, the corners are rounded, and the curves bend so the baseline arcs across the plate, which is what gives the line its bounce. In one setting the hearts sit inside the counters and in the other they hang below the letters as pendants, which shows the two ways the decoration can be used. Because the stroke is light and the decoration small, the face needs a generous size, and the specimen sets both words large against a pink ground with flowers, birds and dots around the edges. Two small captions beneath are set in the same light grotesque, and the whole plate keeps to two inks, which is what a small seasonal card would actually print.

Practical applications

Project & layout
blueprints.

Concrete hierarchy, scale and production guidance tailored to Valentine Wishes’s stroke geometry.

Valentine

Card for a February shop window

A cute monoline display reads as hand-drawn lettering, and the light stroke keeps a window panel from looking heavy where a solid display would block the view.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

Cut a 900 by 400 mm window panel: the phrase at 90 mm cap height, a 6 mm stroke, and 20 mm between letters. Keep the hearts as cut-outs so daylight passes through and test one panel against the glass before the run.

Pre-production check

Check the vinyl at 6 mm, where a thin stroke tears during application; widen it to 8 mm. Confirm the panel reads from the pavement and that the counters do not fill at midday glare.

Birthday

Invitation for a February birthday

A light monoline face gives a February birthday a seasonal tone without a love letter, and the heart counters keep the invitation friendly rather than formal.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

A6 card: the name at 30 pt, the details in a 9 pt sans, and a 3 mm border. Keep 12 mm margins and print two inks on a white card so the light strokes stay crisp on a home printer.

Pre-production check

Check the 30 pt name on a home printer, where a 0.5 mm stroke can break; keep the stroke at or above 0.6 mm. Confirm the 9 pt details keep a 4.5:1 contrast and that the hearts survive at half size.

Thank you

Card for a thank-you note

A gentle monoline display reads as a hand-drawn greeting, and the arc of the baseline gives a short message movement without an illustration.

Hierarchy & layout recipe

A6 folded card: the greeting at 26 pt, the message in a 9 pt roman at 13 pt leading, and a small heart at the foot. Keep 14 mm margins and print one ink on a soft white card.

Pre-production check

Check the 26 pt greeting, where the arc can push the last letter low; align it to the message block. Confirm the 9 pt message reads comfortably and that the card opens flat after folding.
